CorpseGr is Headed Back to Australia by Seth Shafer
Dec 5, 2008Last Sunday's Aussie Millions online finals would crown one player with an $18,000 trip package to the 2009 Aussie Millions, and a full field of 45 runners all showed up ready to make the case that they would be king when the final hand was dealt.
That field included many of the familiar names that do battle each week in the finals, as far as former Team PokerRoom.com members such as bigbalu67, greatprducer, CorpseGr, whassup x, .hades., naztyclown, PlWashy, and Wieringen all in action and trying to win their way back into a coveted spot on the Team roster.
greatprducer got off to a hot start, leading at the first break, with oujdiman75 stealing the chip lead at the second break. With the field down to just five players remaining, it was looking like a former Team PokerRoom.com member might be be booking a return trip, as CorpseGr (who represented the Team at the recent PokerNews Cup event) was leading, with bigbalu67 (2008 WSOP) in 2nd, and whassup x lurking in third:

And it would be those three (CorpseGr, bigbalu67, and whassup x) who would survive to the final 3. whassup x would bow out in 3rd when his Ad 9s ran into bigbalu67's Ah Jh, with a board of As 7s 6s 3d 4h proving too hard for whassup x to get away from.
Here were the stacks when heads-up play began:
bigbalu67: 137,988
CorpseGr: 87,012
CorpseGr quickly got to work, chipping up with aggressive play and not only erasing the initial chip deficit but building a lead of his own. He held nearly a 2-1 chip advantage when the final hand played out.
bigbalu raised pre-flop with As 7s and made the call when CorpseGr re-raised him, holding Ah 9h. Both players checked through a flop of Jh 5s 4s.
The Ad on the turn, though, generated plenty of action. Corpsegr check-raised enough to put bigbalu67 all-in, and bigbalu67 made the call. bigbalu67 was outkicked but any spade or 7 would give him the lead, so he still had plenty of outs.
The river was the 6h, eliminating bigbalu67 in 2nd place and giving CorpseGr the $18,000 trip package to the 2009 Aussie Millions.
