A Huge Weekend of GSOP Action by Liam Clark
Nov 24, 2008The Grand Series of Poker kicked off on Friday with GSOP Event #1 attracting a field of 700 players and a whopping prize pool of $156,200 once all buy-ins, rebuys and add-ons were counted up. As expected, the field was packed full of Team PokerRoom.com's biggest names with the likes of Puggy82, billybillard, AKPlus, realpokermon, dj_stiff, and .hades.all amongst the action.
Once all the dealing was done, it was rosetta77 who outplayed and outlasted the field to take down first prize and $34,293 in cold hard cash. It was a great effort by rosetta77, lighting up the final table after being from short stacked in five-handed play to finally beat chintam1 (23,375) in heads up.
Saturday night saw 954 players turn out for GSOP Event #2, a $150 + $12 NL tournament. That put $143,100 in the pot and again attracted all the big names from Team PokerRoom.com such as KristapsK3, naztyclown, Bumi3, Ovoman and bigbalu67. In the end it was obling27 who picked up the first prize of $26,230, with MosiHope taking down second and $18,432.
In Sunday night's GSOP Event #3 an amazing 1,192 runners each paid $300 into the pot, creating a massive prize pool of $350,000 and a first prize of almost $67,000! Again there was a huge showing from Team PokerRoom.com veterans, but it was maxwerner who beat out the other 1,191 players to take down the 67k first prize. Money.udi finished in second with $47,072 and queensmost took home a tidy $29,688 for third place.
On top of all the cash, rosetta77, obling27 and maxwerner all won a $5,000 GSOP Grand Slam Final Ticket, and all participants have been earning points towards The GSOP Leader Board
Daily GSOP Grand Slam Qualifiers have also been running with Lady-ela, jean giraud and lorytza all picking up $5,000 Grand Slam Finals ticket in the $1 buy-in events!
