AKplus is Once Again Packing His Bags: Next Stop, Aussie Millions by Seth Shafer

Dec 3, 2008

Saturday’s Aussie Millions online finals drew yet another field, all chasing the top prize of a $18,000 trip package to the 2009 Aussie Millions plus an amazing time living the high life as part of the Team PokerRoom.com. There’s plenty of evidence in the finals each week that it’s a trip of a lifetime, as week after week tons of past Team PokerRoom.com members are in action, trying to win another spot on the Team.

Saturday’s finals was no exception, with the likes of PLWalshy, Pech gehabt, gbpoker, AKplus, greatprducer, bigbalu67, KristapsK3, and Gutenburg1 in the field. Pech gehabt got out to a strong start in Saturday’s finals, and put those chips to work, seemingly eliminating half the field himself, especially at the final table.

AKplus, KristapsK3, bigbalu67, and gbpoker were all trying to win their way back on the Team in Saturday's action

Pech gehabt knocked out kingkong777 and PLWalshy (in 6th and 5th, respectively) on the same hand when his pocket aces were more than enough versus AK in both of his opponents hands. And Pech gehabt was at it again the very next hand, eliminating rorodela in 4th when Pech gehabt cracked rorodela’s Kc Ks with As 9s, aided by a Ah Ac 7h flop.

Three hands after that one, tonito1275 would fall, finishing 3rd when AKplus’s As 8d got the better of his Kh 7s. That set up the following heads-up battle between two experienced Team PokerRoom.com vets:

Seat 3: AKplus ($79,444 in chips)
Seat 8: Pech gehabt ($145,556 in chips)

AKplus and Pech gehabt would battle in heads-up play

AKplus quickly evened the match and built a nice lead, and was seemingly poised to end matters fairly quickly. With a raise and a call pre-flop, they saw a flop of Kd 6d 4h, at which point all of the money went in. Pech gehabt tabled Qd Qh but was well behind AKplus’ Ks 8c, left praying for a two outer.

The turn was the Ah but the Qh spiked on the river, not only keeping Pech gehabt alive but giving him a big chip lead of about 180,000 to 45,000. AKplus got as low as 33,000 chips before battling back, though, doubling up when he flopped two pair then doubling up again when Pech gehabt chose a bad time to bluff all-in with K high, as AKplus had flopped trips and snap-called for a big pot that gave him the lead again:

Seat 3: AKplus ($166,552 in chips)
Seat 8: Pech gehabt ($58,448 in chips)

Pech gehabt was down but not out, as he doubled himself to get a little breathing room. In the end, though, AKplus took down the victory, with all of the chips going in pre-flop and AKPlus’ Ah 9s held versus Pech gehabt’s Kd 5s.

This will be AKPlus’ third trip with the Team PokerRoom.com, as he respresented the Team at the both the 2007 WSOP and 2008 WSOP.
