WSOP Champions: Gentleman Jack - Jack Keller (1984)
Jan 10, 2008
Poker Hall of fame member Jack Keller was the winner of the 15th WSOP back in 1984. Jack was known somewhat ironically as 'Gentleman Jack' a nickname that was picked up when he worked as a stock broker and that stuck partly due to some fairly destructive personal habits and partly to do with his highly aggressive, risky style of play.
Jack Keller made a name for himself in the early 80s Las Vegas card rooms as a powerful Seven Card Stud and Lowball player. Gentleman Jack had a reputation for being a particularly 'murderous' Lowball player. Keller was always keen to learn new poker variants and picked up a fondness for Omaha and in turn Texas Hold'em, quickly adding them to his armory of mastered games.
Keller won three WSOP bracelets in total. The first two both came in 1984 the third in 1993. He won his Main Event bracelet with pocket tens against 'Cowboy' Wolford. Keller died in 2003.
