Sunday saw yet another player book their reservation to PokerIsland, where they’ll get a chance to parlay their poker skills into a huge potential payoff in the form of a $100,000 poker pro sponsorship deal to a ton of WSOP and WPT events.
73 players battled it out in the winner-take-all PokerIsland finals on Sunday, with T_square jumping out to the early lead at the 1st break. By the 2nd break the final table was set, with the following chip stacks:
thesheep63 and Selanne86 had both represented Team PokerRoom at the 2008 WSOP, but victory wasn’t in the cards for them on Sunday, with Selanne86 finishing 8th and thesheep63 going out in 5th.
gavstar made a late charge and held a sizable lead when heads-up play kicked off:
Seat 6: gavstar ($82,920 in chips)
Seat 10: marks7 ($26,580 in chips)
The two would trade blows for quite awhile but in the end gavstar managed to finish marks7 off. In the final hand the players were all-in pre-flop and gavstar held 8h 8c, with marks7 sitting on Ac 5d and needing help from the board. None came when the board played out Qd 6h 9d Th 4h, giving gavstar the win and a personal invite to PokerIsland.
There are now three different paths to make it to PokerIsland: qualifying in cash games for the online final by meeting the weekly qualification hand; winning daily and weekly freerolls; and playing your way into the weekly online finals through the new $1 + $0.1 PokerIsland Cheaprolls.
This week’s cash game qualification is:
Week 11 - Win the hand with a set of 5s, twice in 2 days
You are dealt pocket 5s and make a set (three of a kind) twice in 2 days. You must be playing Texas Hold ’em Ring Games for Real Money. You must use both cards in your hand. Your hand must see a showdown and win. There must be at least 3 players seated in the hand.
