So I'm playing Sat night in one of the underground clubs I mentioned before, and just placed 5th in a 30 person tournament (top 4 spots paid). I've managed to make my money back and then some in a $1-2 ring game. I'm now sitting with about $650 behind me, and am dealt 89 offsuit. Now I'm having a pretty decent night overall, so I figure, what the heck. I call a $10 preflop raise, with several callers ahead of me. The flop comes out 7 J 6, all of different suits. I check, and one guy bets out $30. I like my chances, and the pot is a decent size, so I make the call. I'm now heads-up against someone who I've barely got covered in chips. The turn shows a 5. I make a small bet of $30, hoping to be re-raised. Sure enough, the initial bettor fires away with a $75 re-raise. I push all-in to try to take the pot down now (I know, I know. I could have slow-played this one, but I didn't want to have to split a pot if he were to catch his straight too, if he had 8 or 9.) To my amazement, he calls! It's now over a $1300 pot. I flip my cards over, he does the same, revealing 3 4 for the lower straight. Wow, what a rush!
