Nice article Puggy, well said.

I think the important thing is to know your objectives, set them and go about doing what's needed to meet those objectives. If your objective is to make a living at poker or to make alot of money, then you have to 1. read, learn and practice and then starting a lower buy ins progress along with your roll until you can play those high buy in/high return tourneys. Or 2. having already read and learned; play the high buy ins but have an adequate bankroll in place to enable you to absorb the inevitable set backs you will encounter.

My objectives from the start were 3-fold: 1. Have fun. 2. Never have to deposit again. 3. Play what I wanted to play when I wanted to play. Now to meet those objectives I had to be realistic about my skill set, if I were to constantly buy in to 50$, 100$+ tourneys I would quickly fail in my objectives (not having the resources to fund such actions nor the skills to succeed at it). So instead I've made rules for myself in which I buy into 5$, 10$ and on rare occasions 20$ games. If I play at a higher buy in it's because I've won the ticket through a qualifier. I also restrict myself to a set number of games per day. That number varying slightly depending on how my luck is running.

Holding myself strictly to those rules I have been able to meet my objectives, not having to redeposit since my first deposit, and having been able to cash out modest amounts. Perhaps as time permits and my skills improve, I may be able to increase my buy in limitations.

Thanks Pug. Good words of wisdom.

I don't know if anyone plays at FT But Chris Ferguson did an experiment where he started with 0, played freerolls etc until he made it into 10K. It took him a year or so I think. He wrote an article about it. Pretty interesting stuff. He explained BR management and has the challenge outlined .. could probably google it...for anyone who would want to try to do this. This would apply to where ever one plays.

I, like Hells, play qualies but I rarely play the big games with the ticket. I cash the ticket in and play the game I want happy

Fall is here - Winter is coming... everyone getting ready for the Poker season? For me.. it's a winter sport.... however... we do have the Winter Olympics in my neck of the woods this year... Ah heck... maybe the big screen TV and a poker game at the same time. very_happy
