RE: Absolute scandal - On 60 Minutes this Sunday

Sound familiar?

.players decided to investigate the matter themselves after managers and regulators did not respond to their complaints. "No one would listen to us," said Serge Ravitch, a 28-year-old lawyer-turned-poker pro who played a key detective role.

.the Kahnawake declined to name the cheater or turn his name over to prosecutors.
(this is REAL theft from a casino, not some 3 cup scam)

.There was a real arrogance and vindictiveness

.But when he complained to AbsolutePoker, Witteles said, "I got a different story every time."

."an internal security breach that compromised our systems for a LIMITED happy period of time."

.Players continued to attack AbsolutePoker in online forums, complaining that they could not get answers to their questions

.many Internet gambling sites operate in a shadowy world of little regulation and even less enforcement

.Often, owners hide behind multiple layers

.The company's statement did not detail how the breach occurred, how many players were cheated

.questions about the honesty and security of a freewheeling industry

.increasing pressure on AbsolutePoker's management and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission to address the cheating.(incls independant auditing)

Gl bwinners.

The 60 mins show apparently keeps saying over and over again that online poker is illegal in the US and Canada. IT has not gone down well wirth those who have seen it so far.

That was about as listless and pathetic a piece of mainstream crap as most offerings of the once mighty CBS. Maybe the older amongst you remember when the CBS investigative machine was actually feared (it made even used car salesmen wary)
If anyone is interested in what CBS once was check out the movie "Good Night and Good Luck" starring David Strathairn and George Clooney.
Even after the events in the movie played out they were respected (think Cronkite) for a time afterwards. Even 60 minutes (in it's heyday).

We are all damaged by the reticence of those who have the ability but not the will.

Todd Witteles (sp?) (Dan Druff) is taking a lot of stick for giving them that parting line about it could happen elsewhere/anywhere or whatever it was. People are far more negative about this than they were about the Washington Post coverage, and yet they worked together on it.

The Washington Post's Monday coverage is now online. linky here

The WP is running an online debate here at 11 am their time, which by my calculations is...later on today sometime.

Extremely limp-wristed report.Disappointing for the players in that no-one will ever face the music.

Thanks for the link muss.

Yeah, it is a pretty basic report. I wouldn't take issue with that, though. They only had 13 minutes to tell the story and their target audience is not poker players.

For the general population, I think they story is pretty succinct with some good soundbites.

For poker players it was never going to go far enough. There didn't appear to be any info in the report that is not already posted on 2+2.

LOL at 'we found Russ Hamilton' which amounted to speaking to a maid at his residence.

Is it damaging to online poker? Only time will tell but I think the effects will be negligible either way.

It turns out this Todd Witteles (sp) guy used to claim Stars was rigged. He's getting a bit of a backlash because he's ended up looking more of a major player in the whole thing than he actually was and he's used the exposure to say 'Zomfg, it's all rigged maybe'.

People are also a tad disappointed at all the references to online poker being banned in the US (and Canada surprised) with it never being made clear that they mean hosting it or providing the cash transfer services for it, not actually playing it.

I kind of agree with Croy, for us who have a particular interest 12 mins. is never enough sad

Although it barely scratches the surface it gives some interesting info. Whenever people are interviewed and caught on camera the hunt for the truth starts very_happy

The best footage though starts at 9.44 in the interview.
In good Bill Clinton style "I did not have sex with that woman", the KGC chief is trying to make us believe that:

1. The fining wasn't just "a slap on the wrist"

2. Joe Norton wasn't involved in the cheating scandal

See if you can spot the tells very_happy

Obviously this guy doesn't believe what he is trying to tell us.

For me it's evidence enough that the KGC Mohawk hoodlums are in balls deep. I have always believed this and this is merely additional confirmation.

As to the question: "Why do the KGC present Russ Hamilton on a silver platter, but refuse to name the AP culprits?"

I think it's quite obvious, members of the Mohawk tribe and KGC are involved in addition to the former chief.
