Edutainment – The Pot Odds Trainer Review

Dec 20, 2007 08:26 AM. Post 1
As said yesterday this will be the last article in this article series, and we’ll round it up with one final review about The Pot Odds Trainer. These are the things you all should remember:

Essentially, pot odds tell you how likely to win you must be in order for a call to be profitable.

When talking about pot odds, we need to relate it to probabilities. As has been shown before, any random event has an associated probability of happening. This probability can also be expressed in terms of odds against.

In poker, the sum you pay up front is the cost of calling a bet from an opponent, and the money you stand to win is the final sum of the pot. The ratio between these two quantities is known as pot odds.

Using pot odds can be confusing at first glance. This is mostly because there are two different components that is part of the analysis, and they are often expressed differently.

The first one is the odds laid by the pot. This component is easiest to think of in terms of odds: it’s simply a pot bet.

The other component is the probability that you will win. This is easiest to think of in terms of a percentage.

Lastly, remember to account for the fact that the final pot includes your opponent’s bet as well as your call. Hence, the amount you stand to win is not just the amount shown in the pot display, but also your opponent’s bet.

The semester is now officially over. Have a great time at our tables and we hope that these articles will help you on your way to stardom. If you’re still unsure about something, just pay our mini games page a visit and practice some more. It might be worth your while.
