Kris_the_Wiz and bjanko1 are Vegas bound after a Saturday night special.

Apr 23, 2008 12:00 AM. Post 1
PokerRoom.com’s massive Saturday night of WSOP action kicked off with the final day of the 100K WSOP Freeroll.

After an unbelievable 11149 players fought it out on days 1A-1E, the 2180 players that still remained came together to try and get their hands on the 100K worth of cash and prizes. And with the top two finishers both heading to the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, the competition was always going to be fierce.

The players brought their chip stacks with them from the previous days play, but it was Kris_the_Wiz and belzebot22 sitting stacks of 1 163 679 and 1 102 969 respectively who had made the best of things by the time it got down to 30 players after an epic 4hr30min of Freeroll madness!

Another hour of twists and turns later and it was down to 11 players at the 5th break. micky13 was leading the way on 1737800 in chips from kordeSteves on 1719851, and the ever present Kris_the_Whiz on 1567854. The average stack at this stage was 1013545

Straight after the break it was down to the top ten with comander2 busting in 11th, leaving the final table looking like so;

micky133 - 1,737,802 in chips
KordeSteves - 1,719,851 in chips
bjanko1 - 1,420,338 in chips
Kris_the_Wiz - 1,407,854 in chips
petterke5 - 1,406,157 in chips
belzebot22 - 1,179,713 in chips
tomavelik - 786,338 in chips
tomyyayo23 - 672,112 in chips
holli76 - 485,176 in chips
cukkiskacsa - 333,659 in chips

bjanko1 then established himself as the new chip leader, raking in a huge pot when he turned an Ace High Flush and sent both holli76 and belzbot22 to the rail.

petterke5 was then sent packing in 5th place when he got all of his chips in pre-flop but ran into KordeSteves’ pocket 5’s which held up against Ac5c.

Kris_the_Whiz then busted tomavelik and after 6 hours it was down to the final three with bjanko1 still holding the chip lead.

The top three;

bjanko1 - 5,070,831 in chips
KordeSteves - 4,404,277 in chips
Kris_the_Wiz - 1,473,892 in chips

After 30 min of cautious ‘I don’t want to be busted in third’ style play, some big action finally broke out when short stacked Kris_the_Wiz doubled up twice in consecutive hands through bjanko1.

Firstly Kris_the_Wiz moved to over 2,000,000 in chips when he was all-in holding Th Jc against bjanko1’s Ac Tc.

The board ran out Jd 4s Qd Jh As and the_Wiz’s turned trip J’s got the job done against bjanko1 paired Aces

Next hand the_Wiz moved into the chip lead when his flopped trip Q’s held on to beat bjanko1’s two top pair.

Bjanko: Ac Qh
Kris_the_Wiz: Qc Qs
Board: As 4c Qd Js 2s

This left the top three players with the following stacks;

Kris_the_Wiz - 4,346,413 in chips
bjanko1 - 3,498,310 in chips KordeSteves- 3,304,277 in chips

Even though bjanko1 had just been on the receiving end of two consecutive Kris_the_Wiz’s beats, I get a funny feeling he may have been chanting ‘Go Wiz, Go Wiz, Go Wiz’ minutes later when Kris_the_Whiz came up against the short stacked KordeSteves in another pre-flop, all-in showdown.

Kris_the_Whiz showed KhKc and KordeSteves showed 9d As. After a monumental 100k WSOP Freeroll it looked like the two $17,500 packages were Kris_the_Wiz’s and bjanko1’s for the keeping, barring KordeSteves coming from behind and hitting an A, trip 9’s, or four runners.

The river then showed Qd 4C 5s and Kris_the_Whiz had a firm grip on the hand. The turn showed Qc and only and A on the river could save KordeSteves.

The river then showed 7c and Kris_the_Wiz and bjanko1 became the next players to join the 2008 Team PokerRoom.com’s WSOP Main Even odyssey. KordeSteves missed out on Las Vegas but still picked up a massive $5000 in cash and a $93+$7 tournament ticket for his third place. With both remaining players having now secured their spots at the 2008 WSOP Main Event, play relaxed and it wasn’t long until the defining hand played out.

With bjanko1 holding a slight chip lead, he called Kris_the_Whiz’s pre-flop all in shove.

They turned em over and it was a classic race with Kris_the_Whiz holding 4d 4h vs bjanko1’s Kc Ad.

The flop came 4s 8c Js and Kris_the_Whiz found himself way out in front.

With the turn showing 3s bjanko1 was cooked and Kris_the_Whiz took a huge lead with 10 101 080 in chips to 850 000.

bjanko1 then pushed the remainder of his chips into the middle shortly after and the_Whiz made an easy call, showing Kh 9d up against bjanko1’s 4s 9s.

The board ran out 2s Jd Qc Ah Td and with no improvement for either player, first place, an extra $1000, and bragging rights in Vegas went to Kris_the_Whiz. After 5 days of intense poker the WSOP 100K Freeroll was nothing short of amazing and both Kris_the_Whiz and bjanko1 truly deserve their places at the 2008 WSOP Main Event. No doubt success in a marathon tournament such as this will provide them with some extra confidence when they take their seats in Vegas.

Big congratulations must go to all the other players who competed, especially the 500 that were good enough to make it through the hours of poker to the payout structure. The big prizes were as follows; 1. Kris_the_Wiz - $17,500 WSOP Package + $1,000.00 2. bjanko1 - $17,500 WSOP Package 3. KordeSteves - $93+$7 Bounty Ticket + $5,000.00 4. tomavelik - $220+ $15 Ticket + $3,000.00 5. petterke5 - $500+$40 Ticket + $2,000.00 6. micky133 - $220+$15 Ticket + $1,000.00 7. tomyyayo23 - $220+$15 Ticket + $800.00 8. belzebot22 - $220+$15 Ticket + $500.00 9. holli76 - $220+$15 Ticket + $275.00 10. cukkiskacsa - $220+$15 Ticket + $200.00 And just how is the WPT Team PokerRoom.com doing right now?
