Let me Correct that ... I do not like Paying 4.00 a gallon. Gas was 2.65 5 weeks ago. It is out of hand and someone should pay for it besides us.

Gas is expensive because the price of oil is at an all time high.

The price of oil is at an all time high because of the weak American Dollar.

The Dollar is weak because of this administration's failure to keep trade and budget deficits in check, which has led to inflation.

Alan Greenspan warned back in 2004 that the American Dollar would weaken significantly if the administration didn't address the budget and trade deficits. Since both are getting gradually worse, you see inflation everywhere - especially in the price of oil and gasoline.

When the dollar regains its footing (with a balanced budget and a more equitable trade deficit), the price of oil will go down, leading to a reduction in the price of gasoline. But until that time comes, expect the Dollar to get weaker and inflation to continue.

Sorry windmills..i wish it were that simple concerning oil prices...but it isnt.

Oil is a global commodity..and sadly subject to the whims of oil speculators on wall street who have run up the price to absurd proportions.

Gas should not be this high..no matter how bad the greenback has fallen at the moment.

You make the mistake that many economists do...thinking oil is subject to the same market strucuture as other commodities.

Reign in the oil speculators..the price will drop to more equitable levels..right now its price is a result of a fradulent market artifice.

You want real action on gas prices?

Have congress immediately go after the oil specs with a regulatory bill with teeth in the commodities markets...if the american public were exposed to what these leeches were doing there would be universal outrage i guarantee you.

To be a free market dogmatic on this denying reality of what is going on the oil markets.

Any politicans with the spine to do this?

Well Gina what we obviously need is a little more weakening of the Consitution, which GWB has been a master at. The amendment that prohibits more than two terms implies that a President had actually been elected for two terms - since that's not the case with GWB surely he could declare a valid candidacy and jump into the race.

in 2000, President Bush recieved 271 votes from the electoral college while al gore recieved 266. now im not a genius so give me a few minutes to do the math. ok im back, and according to my calculations, President Bush had 5 more votes then al gore, thus making him the elected president.

now in 2004, President Bush recieved 286 votes against john kerrys 251. ill be back in 5 minutes, i need my calculator and some scrap paper to figure this out. ok im back, and according to my calculations, Bush beat kerry by 35 votes, thus making him the re-elected President happy

Sorry, I can't work up any empathy for someone who has to drive 90 miles betweeen her parent's and her friend's homes. I save my emotions for the poor guy who has to drive 90 miles to WORK 5 days a week - and has to use half his paycheck to pay for the gas to get there. mad

i wasnt looking for empathy. all i implied earlier in this post is that i know what gas costs and that im realistic in knowing that nothing stays the same price forever. and im curious K, do you have children? because i have 2 and if you think thats not "work" then you are wrong.

Sorry - what I meant by "work" is a job that puts food on the table and a roof over your head. I didn't want to imply that you don't work - I'm sure taking care of children is hard work. Here's the thing though - you DON'T have to drive those 90 miles unless you want to. Many working stiffs have no choice. So if I am to believe ctMason - its not the fault of the current government that Oil prices have gone through the roof - but that its a bunch of scalawag speculators that are profiting from the run up. So - I'm not blaming Bush, just like I won't blame the next President, and just like I won't credit the Prez if things turn around. Its CONGRESS that needs to kick some butt. Unfortunately - all our senators and representatives seem to care about is pork and getting re-elected. PS: I also don't bleed from my heart too much for Europe. Their economies seem to be a lot healthier right now than ours - and if they pay $10 a gallon - then they have the Euros to do so - which means they have more spendable cash than many working Americans do right now.
