So gina, this is what I think.

I've been reading your posts for a long time, but not responding. The reason for that is because I think your political views are assinine. I don't know about your sports views, because I'm not particularly into sports, but your political views are, in my opinion, pathetic. Go get stuffed.

I have a SUV and I get 23 a miles highway and about 20 city. I drive 7 miles to work and back 5 days a week. If I could use a small car I would but I have 4 grandkids and they will not fit into a small car.

Bush has Broke American. This country has never been in this bad of shape sence he has been in office. He only cares about the Rich folks and getting that OIL money into his Pocket. There is NO Reason why the oil companys should be getting 30 to 40 billion a year profit and living large when people can not afford to put food on their table for their children so they buy gas for the vehs to get to and from work just to keep a roof over their head.

If Bush is so great and helped this county then please name me at least 5 good things he has done for American .. and the little tax check thingy does not count.

The 251 days could not go fast enough to get that man out of office ... but that is my opinion wink

Bush has turned out to be the poorest economic visionary our country has ever had. It really is a total conglomeration of stupid legislation, foreign trade deficits, Adding pork to almost any legilation going through.

The White House has become who's on first?

I'm afraid it is going to become worse. When Bush came into office our national debt was like 5. something trillion. it is now at 8. trillion.

AND a huge amount of this is held by foreigners. (Asian) In exchange we let the overwhelming amount of exports into this country. They are more than happy to let the debt ride at a low interest, there will come a time they are going to cash it in. Greenspan warned a long time ago about the disaster this will be become.
This presidency boosted Medicare, & Social Security..How the hell are they going to pay for this?

Some of the oil exporting countries are talking about the currency used for oil to be in euro's...we already know what the exchange rate is for that against a weak dollar.

I'm really not chicken little. Our economy affect the world's economic stability too. American goverment has to get their head out of their a$$ and stop the spending, get some kind of control on the trade deficits.
Also I was reading the US is the LARGEST contributor for world food, meds etc. I agree to help people, but did you know the oil rich countries contribute nothing to world aid??? Maybe there ought to be some feet held to the fire on that.

Also Venezuela with their "lil deals with China providing oil for their factories, is also controlling that monopoly...What a crock.

Okay off the soapbox tonight...Just thought I'd remind what Bush's non-economic vision is doing to us.

Hey CT,

Thanks for thoughtfully weighing in on the topic. I agree that speculators have driven the price up, too, but here's where we may diverge in our thoughts.

The speculation is fueled by the weak dollar. If the dollar were strong, speculation wouldn't affect the price as much.

Bush went to the leaders of OPEC several months ago and asked for an increase in the amount of oil being released so that we could get some relief. OPEC president Chakib Khelil responded acidly that the crude's remarkable run had nothing to do with the reluctance of Persian Gulf nations to pump oil, and everything to do with the "mismanagement of the U.S. economy." (Newsweek, Mismanagement 101)

The cause-effect relationship isn't as simple as I made it out to be. But I do think that the biggest factor is the weak American Dollar.

Just adding my 2 cents windmills

Here is the thing...the speculators have caused such an skewed artifice of price for crude that any causal relationship between a weak dollar and oil prices needs to be met with skepticism.

I am no apologist for OPEC but in this case we really have to look in the mirror in my view.

Until we reign in the specs...whether we have a stronger dollar(which i support anyway) will always be a problem concerning the price of crude.
