Gryzly Has an Unbearably Good Sunday - by Seth Shafer

Jun 11, 2008 12:00 AM. Post 1
Gryzly Has an Unbearably Good Sunday Sunday’s WSOP online finals at PokerRoom punched yet another player’s
ticket to Las Vegas for the 2008 Main Event, with the winner taking down a $17,500
prrize package that includes entry fee, airfare, hotel, and an amazingly good
time while at the event.
37 players entered Sunday’s finals, with Unten Ohne holding
the chip lead at the first break. Gutenburg1 (who finished
2nd in the finals the day before) was the leader at the 2nd break, and was still
in the hunt when the field was narrowed down to five players:
Seat 1: Gryzly ($33,805 in chips)
Seat 2: Doggyattore ($27,635 in chips)
Seat 3: Gutenburg1 ($18,775 in chips)
Seat 4: Alain1304KAP ($19,130 in chips)
Seat 10: tygrr ($11,655 in chips)
Unlike many of the faster-paced finals, this one not only saw a 3rd break,
but those same five players were still all alive. Alain1304KAP
would finally bow out in 5th place, with Gutenburg1 finishing
in 4th.
Seat 1: Gryzly ($51,855 in chips)
Seat 2: Doggyattore ($28,835 in chips)
Seat 10: tygrr ($30,310 in chips)
Doggyattore’s day came to a disappointing and unfortunate
end in 3rd place, as he got all his chips in pre-flop with Ah Kc and had to
be overjoyed to see Gryzly turn over Ad Qc; happy until the
board rolled out 10d Jh 8h 9d 7d, giving Gryzly and his dominated
hand a straight to take down a big pot and assume a big lead in heads-up action:
Seat 1: Gryzly ($82,690 in chips)
Seat 10: tygrr ($28,310 in chips)
The battle of animals came to a quick end in just 6 hands, with bears proving
mightier than tigers, when all of the chips found their way into the middle
pre-flop, with Gryzly holding 10d 10h and tygrr
As Qs.
The board didn’t improve either player’s hand, with Gryzly’s
pocket tens holding up to give him the victory and the $17,500 prize
package, with tygrr settling for $586 + a finals ticket for
his 2nd place finish.
