RE: 2008 Tri-Nations Rugby prediction thread

Aug 17, 2008 05:41 PM. Post 111
Hey gents,

Saturday’s match was won by the team who took their chances and finished them off the best. Unfortunately the springboks failed to convert any scoring opportunities where as the New Zealand team showed their class in scoring 3 good tries.

I was a bit little disappointed in the fact that the Springboks didn’t manage to score any points, but that is the way the game goes.

New Zealand played very well at times and their defence won them the game more than their attempt to score tries.

It will now be interesting to see what will happen between the Australians and South Africans in the next two test matches.

South Africa 0 New Zealand 19
Scorers
New Zealand: Tries - Conrad Smith, Dan Carter, Keven Mealamu. Conversions - Carter (2)

In regards to the predication competition we have going for the duration of the Tri-nation 2008, here are the current scores of all the players who have actively contributed over a last few weeks…

amh11 – 2 points
son of tattoo – 1 point
Kiwi bugs – 2 points
Jeremy-1986 – 5 points
spot the dot – 1 point

Please keep in mind that the above “leader board” is for the weekly predictions.

The five guys mentioned above are currently still playing for a $30+3 tourney ticket. However, remember that once the Tri-nations series is done and dusted, the above mentioned 5 players will still play in a private tournament along with 2 other players who have automatically qualified for that private tourney. Those two players are “silkydealer” and “croywhale”, the reason why these two players automatically qualified for the private tourney, is because they entered the prediction thread during the first week of the thread opening.

The predictions made during the first week will still come into play once the Tri-nations is finished and all the matches have been played. The winner of the predictions made during the first week will also win a $30+3 ticket.

The details of the private tournament like when it will be played, the buy-in, blind levels etc will be decided by the original 6 players participating in this thread and then setup accordingly by the winner of the weekly “leader board”. The 7 of you will battle it out for your prize pool, depending on the buy-in you guys decide on plus the WSOPE Bounty Stage 2 SnG qualifier ticket.

Just to let you guys know, this prediction thread was setup by Vinnie, but he has since handed it over to me. I’ve tried my best to make head or tails from his notes, so if you have questions or think that I’ve misunderstood the rules or qualifying structure for the private tourney, please let me know.

Cheers,
Rio

Well done to the Australians for beating the Springboks in South Africa. They were finally able to do so for the first time since the year 2000.

Regrettably the Springboks failed to impress anybody and for the first time in many years deservedly got booed off the field by very unhappy supporters. Their inability to play rugby and in general failing to come up with any kind of game plan ensured that the Australians had an easy day at the office.

Unfortunately I do not see anything changing for next week’s match and I believe that Australia will have an easy game to look forward to. It is truly a sad day for South African rugby… Final score was 27-15 for the Australians.

South Africa: Tries: Adi Jacobs (2) Penalties: Butch James
Conversion: Percy Montgomery.
Australia: Tries: Benn Robinson,
Lote Tuqiri, Stirling Mortlock.
Conversions: Matt Giteau (3).
Penalties: Giteau (2).

Well done to Kiwi Bugs for scoring quite a few points during this week’s prediction game.

Cheers,
Rio

Hey fans,

It is that time again. In roughly 3 hours time, South Africa takes on Australia. Australia are clear favourites to win this afternoon, even though it will be the first time since 1963 that they beat South Africa in back-to-back Test matches on South African soil…

Personally I will always be a Springbok supporter, but it pains me to see the guys not being able to play good rugby. Like I said in my previous post, I don’t expect South Africa to win this match, but I’ll be hoping for a surprise upset by the Springboks.

Teams:

Australia - 15-Adam Ashley-Cooper, 14-Peter Hynes, 13-Stirling Mortlock, 12-Timana Tahu, 11-Lote Tuqiri, 10-Matt Giteau, 9-Sam Cordingley, 8-Wycliff Palu, 7-Phil Waugh, 6-Rocky Elsom, 5-Hugh McMeniman, 4-James Horwill, 3-Matt Dunning, 2-Tatafu Polota-Nau, 1-Benn Robinson.

Replacements: 16-Stephen Moore, 17-Al Baxter, 18-Dean Mumm, 19-George Smith, 20-Brett Sheehan, 21-Ryan Cross, 22-Drew Mitchell

South Africa - 15-Conrad Jantjies, 14-Odwa Ndungane, 13-Adrian Jacobs, 12-Jean de Villiers, 11-Jongikhaya Nokwe, 10-Butch James, 9-Fourie du Preez, 8-Pierre Spies, 7-Juan Smith, 6-Schalk Burger, 5-Victor Matfield, 4-Andries Bekker, 3-Brian Mujati, 2-Bismarck du Plessis, 1-Tendai Mtawarira.

Replacements: 16-Adriaan Strauss, 17-Jannie du Plessis, 18-Danie Rossouw, 19-Luke Watson, 20-Enrico Januarie, 21-Ruan Pienaar, 22-Percy Montgomery.

Regardless of the result later today, the Tri-Nations title will be decided when one-point leaders New Zealand face Australia in Brisbane on September 13.

Enjoy the game!

Cheers,
Rio
