Double or Nothings, general strategy

Jul 16, 2008 10:57 AM. Post 1
What are peoples initial thoughts on strategy for these?

I've played about 25 of them and have about a 65% win rate. Still really early to know if my strategy is working. I've been playing them like a normal sng up till the 50-100 level then playing them a bit tighter than normal.

With a stack I'm raising about 2.5-3bbs and then betting 1/2 pot (normally i bet about 3/4 pot). When I'm at 12bb or less I'm in fold/shove mode, only shoving good hands. 10-12bb probably TT+ AQ+. 7-10bb 77+ ATs+ AJo+ ( a bit tighter oop) and <7 55+ AXs+ A8o+ regardless of position.

Anyone think there's a problem with the 1/2 pot bets? How about playing them tighter than normal? They're extremely tight around bubble but I'm hesitant to take advantage of that without solid reads. Since I don't think they're profitable unless heavily multi-tabled I rarely have solid reads.

Thoughts?

Standard SnG strat should work. Not the idiots that dont understand correct bubble play ect..

Survival is the most important thing.

I have played 0 of these and have been ITM 0% of the time, so.........

Played a few of these.

As Ratty says, standerd SnG play works, only way you should be missing payout in these is by taking bad beats.

The more you play the easier to read it is, I tend to find it is rather tight the whole game, not just bubble time. People tend to play for chips with monsters so you need to be careful with that. You can push people off decent hands though, as they protect their chips. There is also some risk takers, that will go crazy for a double up. Being low stacked isn't all that hard to get out of because of how tight it is, you can pick your spots easily.

To be honest, don't change your game, if you were a winning player before, you should ace these.

Wow, had calculated winrate by my profits. Actually closer to 55% but I've been winning more of my $30s and I won the one $50 I played. I was a bit surprised at the high win rate because I was losing more than half of my races and had about 5 overpairs beat in such a short time.

I it's a combination of variance and the $20s being tighter around bubble. With everyone having less then 10bbs I think they're easy to lose without a bad beat. I guess this will have to be taken advantage of. I had been pushing a bit light in position but had bad results, I'm thinking I was a bit rash to discount it as viable.

I won't push light indiscriminately but I'm pretty sure I'll be taking advantage of the shortys and limited reads.

heh, it can work out rather well if you lose the low levels, and win the high ones very_happy

And also, watch for those limpers preflop that will call a 10xbb raise with their 57o cause they have chips in play wink

lol, no kidding. I'll gladly take a 50% win rate at the 20s and an 80% at the 30s very_happy

I'm not pushing late with limited reads unless it's an unopened pot, no worries there wink

Are these exclusive to NL holdem? I dont seem able to find any in omaha8. If so is there any reason why. Or are they coming later if this is a success?

I agree dad these would be amazing at oh8.

As for strategy ive been a bit preoccupied or id have played loads more of these over the last 2.

Played just over 100 of them mostly at $22 and the odd $33 but havnt refined my strategy or worked out my long term method for these yet.
I think you have to be careful to coinflip as little as possible though but sometimes obviously this cant be avoided , i mean even if you think your on the 55% end of the race and this holds up 55% of the time thats a maximum of 55% of the time you will cash and thats assuming you never bust after winning the race, in a normal sng if you win the race theres more value in having the stack as you can bully the bubble and hopefully then take it down after playing for the win but obviously these pay the same for 5th as 1st so theres little importance in stacksize as long as you negotiate the bubble.

For me based on the little amount ive played my strategy will be to avoid big confrontations unless i have a real monster and try and play on the fact everyone is playing to not bubble and try and pick up as many pots as possible in this area of the game and be pretty active and take a normal sng approach if a little more cautious at the start.
