Aug 9, 2008 08:26 AM. Post 1
Ive decided im going to take a week off in the very near future and spend as much time as i would usually spend on poker that week reading up on the strategy side of the game as ive always been too lazy and havnt read 1 poker book so think its about time i did.

So....

I thought id post this here and i will post anything good i find for others to read and maybe people can point me/others in the direction of anything they think would be beneficial i.e. training sites , online articles , books or anything similar.

Hi Marky,

2+2 forum is very good.

Harrington's 3 books on Tournament strategy are very good.

Sklansky No Limit Holdem Theory and practise is very good.

Gus Hansens book is a fun read (he details every hand of the Aussie millions that he played) worth a read just to see a different style.

That should keep you busy.. maybe I'll do the league that week wink

Raisie Daisy and Any two cards will do, are my personal favourite strategies.

My favourite hand is the backdoor flush draw. I always try to get my chips in the middle with that one.

Hope that helps Marky happy.

Hey marky,

As Bangkoker said, Dan Harrington's vol. 1 to 3 are a must read.

I would also advice you to take a look at www.pockerxfactor.com. It's a video/blog/articles learning site runned by JonnhyBax (atm 3rd ranked at OPR PS)and Sheets, with a lot of pros like Pearljammer, Rizen and others.

It begun mainly focusing at mtt but they recently acquired PokerFox.net (Fox and hatfield13) who focus mainly in sng, cash and other games than holdem.

Hope that helps, cheers!

Hi Marky

What they said^^^^ plus do not buy any books by Daniel Negreanu or Phil Hellmuth. happy

It has been said that David Sklansky has written some good stuff. Personally I tried but haven't finished any of his books, I kind of got bogged down.

Take for example Sklansky's Fundamental Theorem of Poker: "Every time you play a hand differently from the way you would have played it if you could see all your opponents' cards, they gain; and every time you play your hand the same way you would have played it if you could see all their cards, they lose. Conversely, every time opponents play their hands differently from the way they would have if they could see all your cards, you gain; and every time they play their hands the same way they would have played if they could see all your cards, you lose." surprised

The same concept in the words of Dan Harrington: "An error is a play you wouldn't make if you knew what your opponent had." happy

Slansky a little long winded? Say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sklansky's Fundamental Theorem of Poker: "Every time you play a hand differently from the way you would have played it if you could see all your opponents' cards, they gain; and every time you play your hand the same way you would have played it if you could see all their cards, they lose. Conversely, every time opponents play their hands differently from the way they would have if they could see all your cards, you gain; and every time they play their hands the same way they would have played if they could see all your cards, you lose."
