WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets

Aug 24, 2008 08:36 AM. Post 1
Recently I purchased myself a new Xbox360 game. I thought I’d try my luck at something non-violent, with no foul language and that will have a relaxing effect on me while playing… So I decided to buy me the new WSOP 2008: Battle for the Bracelets game.

How wrong I was in my assessment. Even though there is no violence, foul language in the game itself, it sure does induce the occasional outburst and throwing of the cordless control. So there goes the relaxing part of the gaming experience. I guess I should have known, after all, it is still poker I’m playing. LoL

Now before I continue, I can just image what you guys are thinking, dude, get a life… You work for an online poker site, you play a hand of real money poker every now and then at your local pub and now you dabble in poker games. I have to admit, I’m a sucker for games of skill. Reason being, no matter how bad you are, you learn how to get better and with a little bit of luck, you can earn yourself some bragging rights amongst your mates.

Anyways, the game is really cool and for the first few days, I couldn’t finish in the money to save my life. I mean, you get to play against players like Phil Hellmuth, Chris Ferguson, Johnny Chan and Mike Matusow. In fact, there are 30 of the world’s top poker champions in the game.

There is also a really awesome feature called the “poker school” where some of these great players willingly teach you some tricks and tips they use when playing poker. And after playing in one of the bigger tournaments on offer in this game, finishing within the top 10, a person actually feels like you have bettered your own poker skills…

There are plenty of other nifty in-game features as well as you can select which kind of poker game you wish to play, ranging from Holdem, Omaha, Razz and Horse. Anyways, I’m not here to sell the game to you.

I was wondering, would you guys and gals be interested in hearing some of these poker tips shared by the above mentioned poker champs over the next few days?

Cheers,
Rio

Ratty_2004,

I will gladly bow to you without having to go through the humiliation of losing a game of HALO 3. My younger brother bought him HALO 3 a while back, he (to put it nicely) sent me back to the stone-age when I challenged him. I should have known better, since he recently won a LAN-party (I think this is what the younger people call it these days) consisting out of 600 players. Unfortunately I’m not a big HALO 3 fan, although I will say, it is a great game.

The whole “first-person shooter” is simply above my fire-place. I enjoy the sport games more…

Ratty_2004, I have to agree 100% with you, the Xbox360 console is a great platform for all games. Also in regards to its price and the prices of its games, it is much more accessible to the normal public. The Playstation 3 console is simply to expensive here is South Africa.

As for the Olympic game they released recently, I’m waiting for the price to go down before I’ll get it. It does look like good fun though.

I’m going to have to disappoint with the Poker tips for today, as I don’t have them with me at the moment. I firstly wanted to see if there is any interest…

Some of the tips are very basic and others are good quality tips that can improve general poker skills, but I’m more interested in the views and opinion that our more experienced players will have on them… wink

But I promise to bring a few tips with me tomorrow. I don’t want to try and remember them off by heart, because if I make a mistake, it could have serious impacts…

Rio.
