On The game Was definitely On His Game for the ChampionChip - By Seth Shafer

Sep 11, 2008 04:48 AM. Post 1
Last weekend saw yet another successful running of one of PokerRoom’s biggest and boldest tournaments: the Championchip. Just like the Grand a few weeks back, the latest edition of the ChampionChip featured the largest payouts in its history, with a staggering $553,350 in total prize money up for grabs!

1581 runners turned out for the ChampionChip on September 7th, all with their eyes on the top prize of an eye-popping $124,504. They’d be in for a long day of poker if they wanted to take down the tournament, though, as a winner wouldn’t be crowned for nearly nine hours after play began.

Early leaders including peeda01, Look2u, as96, and andrea1965, as well as Hamburg 10, who represented Team PokerRoom at the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

When the final table line-up was set, here’s how the remaining players stacked up:

1. andrea1965 - 1,679,165
2. On The game - 969,361
3. Look2u - 920,462
4. Highchecker - 553,163
5. Nutsdealer - 232,322
6. Hamburg 10 - 166,129
7. collo1910 - 104,246
8. SHARK94 x - 72,108
9. meikf2 - 46,044

With blinds and beats taking their inevitable toll, players began to fall by the wayside, with the players finishing 6th-9th:

6th: collo1910 ($16,601)
7th: SHARK94 x ($11,067)
8th: Hamburg 10 ($9,407)
9th: meikf2 ($7,747)

That left the final five, with On The game sitting on the chip lead and hoping to power through for the victory:

Seat 1: nutsdealer ($344,644 in chips)
Seat 2: On The game ($1,695,756 in chips)
Seat 5: andrea1965 ($725,218 in chips)
Seat 9: Look2u ($1,516,056 in chips)
Seat 10: Highchecker ($461,326 in chips)

Highchecker was next to go, finishing in 5th ($22,134) when he shoved pre-flop with Ac 6c but fold himself dominated by Look2u’s Ah 10h, which held to eliminate Highchecker.

nutsdealer hit the rails in 4th place ($33,201) when he lost a huge three-way pot with Look2u and andrea1965. andrea1965’s flopped set of 4s on a board of 7d 4c Ks 7h 2c was good versus Look2u’s Kd 10c and nutsdealer’s Ah Kh, shipping a 1.75 million chip pot andrea1965’s way.

With three players remaining it was virtually anyone’s tournament to win, as all three were relatively close in chips:

Seat 2: On The game ($1,710,756 in chips)
Seat 5: andrea1965 ($1,750,080 in chips)
Seat 9: Look2u ($1,282,164 in chips)

They avoided any huge confrontations for quite a few hands, but the inevitable collision of big hands finally occurred, with Look2u and andrea1965 getting it all-in pre-flop; Look2u held Ac Ks with andrea1965 sitting on pocket kings.

The board blanked out, improving neither player’s hand, and Look2u was eliminated in 3rd, taking home $44,268. That big pot left the final two players nearly even in chips when heads-up play began:

Seat 2: On The game ($2,626,566 in chips)
Seat 5: andrea1965 ($2,022,534in chips)

andrea1965 was on the ropes but doubled up in a big hand after flopping bottom two pair and dodging a flush draw. After forging ahead to a slight lead of 500,000 chips, andrea1965 was a river card away from a potential victory.

andrea1965 held Ad 10s versus On The game’s Kd Qh, with hefty bets and call on a flop and turn of 6d 3d Jd 3s, with each player playing their flush draws and overcards fast. andrea1965 was still leading with A high until the Qc fell on the river, and called On The game when he shoved his last 460,000 chips into the middle.

That left andrea1965 with just 500,000 chips versus On The game’s 4,250,000, and the end came quickly. andrea1965 shoved pre-flop with Ac Qs and had to be happy to see On The game call with Ks 10h; happy, that is, until the board ran out Kc 3d Jh 7c Kh.

That sealed the victory for On The game, who took down $124,504 for 1st place, with andrea1965 settling for $68,615 for the second place finish.

As always congrats to the winners and to all the players who turned out for another successful running of the ChampionChip at PokerRoom.
