It’s Like the 2008 WSOP All Over Again - by Seth Shafer

Sep 25, 2008 12:00 AM. Post 1
With ESPN currently broadcasting coverage from the 2008 WSOP, it’s only fitting that PokerRoom ran a reunion tournament last weekend for all of the Team PokerRoom members who attended the event.

44 players turned out for the reunion tournament on Sunday, which gave the players a great chance to catch up and reminisce about not only the great time they had at the 2008 WSOP as part of Team PokerRoom, but how life has treated them since then (and how players who cashed had spent all of that hard-earned money since then!)

To make things even more interesting, PokerRoom offered up a $500+$40 online finals ticket to the winner and a $50+$4 ticket to the runner-up, so that hopefully they’ll put the tickets to good use and qualify for the 2009 Aussie Millions or another upcoming live event.

TurnDawg55 got off to a quick start and was the chip leader at the first break, giving way eventually to sicilian17, who was the leader of the pack when the final table was set:

Seat 1: gbpoker ($15,015 in chips)
Seat 2: Franek-62 ($7,420 in chips)
Seat 3: cedn15 ($4,625 in chips)
Seat 4: monzie1 ($4,006 in chips)
Seat 5: sicilian17 ($16,325 in chips)
Seat 6: TheBrain001 ($4,550 in chips)
Seat 7: TurnDawg55 ($12,008 in chips)
Seat 9: Selanne86 ($10,225 in chips)
Seat 10: fanslau ($13,826 in chips)

In the end it was a case of the rich getting richer, the cream rising to the top, or whatever other analogy you’d like to use. sicilian17 (who won $115,290 in the ChampionChip shortly after returning from Vegas) put his chip lead to good use, taking down first place and the $500+$40 ticket.

cedn15 was the runner up, collecting the $50+$40 ticket, with Selanne86 (3rd), Franek-62 (4th) and gbpoker (5th) rounding out the top five finishers.

Congrats to the winners and to all of the players who turned out. Keep an eye out on the WSOPE blog, too, as both billybillard and gbpoker will be making the trip across the pond from Canada to take another crack at the WSOP, this time at the WSOPE.
