maybe i was wrong to call( i didnt misclick happy )
here is what i thought:

i cannot exclude aq from their range since its often limped in sngs.
i was scared of the caller – its a huge bet, why should he call?
nevertheless i thought i was in front most of the time.

if i call and take 2700 i have a good chance to get itm, if i lose i still have 1000 to work with.
if i raise i will probably get 3700 – sure itm – but if i lose im out.

if you look at their hands you can imagine that its important to just stay alive – you will make chips anyway. i probably overrated this factor here and lost value. i was just scared of the big bets and absolutely willing to stay alive (what you should definitely do in sngs).

im still a bit unsure about the hand. after your replies i rather tend to say i should have raised. thx for the replies anyway happy

U gotta weigh value up against safety. In this case they could easily have set or top 2.

There is one player thats totally awsome when it comes to value-betting his hands; Patrick Antonius.

He doesnt just win the pots, he has some incredible way of gettin the most out of every pot.

We can all learn much from that guy.. specially when it comes to value-betting.

No problem, u will find some good vids of him and others on pokertube.

Im not gonna try to seem like an expert here, cause im working on my valuebetting as well, but here is how i see it; U always gotta try and put ure "enemy" on a hand as soon as possible. Find out his range, find out whoes the fish on the table, and who plays agressive etc etc.

Try to pin down what they are holding, even preflop by watching how they bet. Then ask ureself whats likely their next move will be, or watch the postflop action and adjust the possible range.

When u have played enough tournaments u will do this on instinct, u will sense when something is up, and u will be more aware of where u are in the hand.

In the hand mentioned, i dunno what stake that was, but its very unlikely someone limp with AQ at that level.
Limping small pp is more likely, or any 2 over 10 i suppose.

--------------------------------------

^^^^^After writing that i scoped u, and i think u must be a bit shy.

Ure graph is going straight up, so u must be doing something right.

U on a team? very_happy

lol im not shy, but sometimes i wonder how i manage to play profitable at all though i make tons of mistakes and have a lot to learn very_happy

still i have to diagree on aq - i limp it myself frequently in early stage(not always of course, just now and then) and im quite convinced of it (im not talking about mtts)

quite a lot of germans seem to play in teams - but not me, lyk. (no real interest :/)
but i know that you have just created a team - gl with your new teamhappy

Fold preflop. I wouldn't recommend even considering calling here. Your biggest edge in a STT is knowing when to push, fold and call in the later stages. The edge you do have early is playing your strong hands hard, getting paid by the donks.

As played, you obviously check the flop and call turn. One of the reasons you want to avoid limping these types of hands is that you can't avoid spots where you're getting great odds to call but nevertheless are just bleeding chips 90% of the time. You can't give away 5% of your stack every time you get an unsuited gapper(with only 2 possible straights) in position.

River, pot is 450. Initial limper bets 750, 2nd limper flats. Like you said, don't have to worry about the huge overbet having AQ but the call is concerning. While suspicious, it's extremely unlikely villain flats the nuts. It's the river, I'd only be worried about that on the flop or turn(not that I'd be very worried anyway, so many hands are part of a random STTer's range). Initial better is obviously going to call a reraise and it's quite unlikely anyone else is calling such a big bet.

If you're going to limp hands like Q9o you have to maximize your value because the vast majority of time you're just donating your chips.

Check out this forum if you plan to play a lot of STTs. I learned quite a bit in a short time.
