Masterka7x Wins One for the Ladies at Monza - By Seth Shafer

Oct 7, 2008 02:19 PM. Post 1
The sixth and final leg of PokerRoom’s Race Trophy competition took place in Monza, Italy, where the sixth and final seat to the upcoming $500,000 Guaranteed finals in Vienna was up for grabs.

Each of the eight PokerRoom qualifiers at Monza had played their way into the poker weekend of a lifetime, as they’d qualified through freerolls or Sit n’ Go leaderboards to win their free, all-expenses paid trip.

Once in Monza, it was time to experience the legendary PokerRoom hospitality. Just like at all the Race Trophy circuit stops, PokerRoom spared no expense when it came to ensuring that the players had the time of their lives, including stretch Hummer limos, steaks and sushi at Nobu, and late evenings on the town.

As if that wasn’t action enough, there was still plenty of poker to play, with the players battling it out track-side in a private tournament that would send one of them to the $500,000 Guaranteed finals in Vienna.

Here was the lineup of players, with players from eight different countries represented (including illusionista trying to win it for the home crowd):

Masterka7x (Poland)
G.Mendez (UK)
Ragnash (Australia)
..Mr77.. (Sweden)
STAMFORD05 (UK)
doubleclubs (Latvia)
illusionista (Italy)
DK_DONKEY (Denmark)

As has been the case in previous Race Trophy stops, the pace was slow early on as players conserved their chips and waited for premium hands. With blinds escalating at a fast clip, though, players were eventually forced to start moving their chips around.

DK_DONKEY and G.Mendez were early leaders, with Masterka7x making a charge when her pocket kings held up against G.Mendez’s AJ. From there it was no looking back for Masterka7x, as she held the chip lead until there were just two players left and she was heads-up with G.Mendez.

G.Mendez made his stand with pocket twos, shoving all-in preflop, and after dwelling a bit Masterka7x made the call with A7o. G.Mendez’s twos looked like they were going to hold as the flop and turn were harmless, but a 7 spiking on the river gave the hand and the victory to Masterka7x.

She’ll join the other finalists from the other five Race Trophy circuit stops in Vienna for the finals, where half a million dollars will be up for grabs, with the winner taking home a cool $285,000.
