What have to do??Flush Draw All-In Against my Better Hand

Oct 7, 2008 05:02 PM. Post 1
Hi, I was playing a re-buy tournament and was eliminated early on (didn't want to rebuy). Ok so a low stack goes all in with A9 suited. I raise it with AK since I am early position and want to push other players out.

The BB calls with KT suited (same suit as the all in from low stack). This move already puzzles me. In my opinion BB with KT suited against a re-raise pre-flop is a pretty bad move already.

The flop shows J65 with two cards of the suit that BB needs and he pushes all in right away. From observing his play style earlier I don't think he got any pair on the flop. So I call. At this stage I should be around 65/35% ahead to him if not more. The turn gives him the flush.

I don't think I should have folded my AK to him on the flop, but am just wondering what you guys think about this.TY for your Answers and Tipps,Fran

In a re-buy, you would expect some people to play any draw very aggro. It really depends on the stacks. If you are deep enough you definately fold, unless the allin represent a tiny bet into a huge pot.

It is correct that you'll prob have the best hand a number of times in this situation, or outs if not. You would expect any mid-pair to do this, as well. The problem with a draw is that his cards are likely to be live as well, giving him 9+3+3 cards to win(with ex:QTs, J8s) or in this case 12 (not counting any backdoor str8s.)
Sometimes you must expect to face KJ,AJ, or QJ, maybe even a pair and a flush draw. If you call a big allin bet with AK-high on flop based on a read...well, you btter be right almost every time for making this a profitable call.

Bottom line: I think calling here is a mistake and a variance booster with neutral EV at best. In other words - a gamble you do not need to take. There are better spots.

I think it was a good thing to bet large initially with AK - to push out others - but when flush draw appears on flop - and u don't hit - even a pair - and long chance at str8 - time too lose the preciosness of AK - and fold.

Really hard to fold monsters like that - but reading the flop - its better to save left over chips for something much more certain later.

One of the greatest bits of poker advice i ever got was don't get married to a hand. AK is a drawing hand not a made one. If you don't get what you're drawing for you either bluff with it or let it go. As he'd already pushed so there was no possibility of bluffing him off ( there probably wasn't anyway ) it was time to let it go.

Further to the other advice, I personally wouldn't play rebuys if I had no intention of rebuying (not an unlimited rebuy tourney anyway). People play a wide range of hands to try to accumulate chips and you need to be ready to gamble a bit. Just my view anyway. happy

Fold to him on the flop, that is the simple answer. Your hand is losing to pocket 2s at that point. Unless you have a huge chip advantage and can push people around, sticking with AK will get you burned. It's not like it's an invincible hand. Now the person who called with a KT made a very loose and questionable call, but he/she was able to put their money in first after the flop. And you should have folded, especially if you are calling all your chips away.
