Puggy82 Adds a ChampionChip to His Poker Resume by Seth Shafer

Oct 8, 2008 05:26 PM. Post 1
The October edition of the ChampionChip took place on October 5th, with another big turnout of 1,493 players. If they wanted to take down the top prize of $117,574, each was looking at a long, grueling day of poker, with the typical ChampionChip taking 8-9 hours to play down to a happy, exhausted (and much richer) winner.

As with any large field tournament, there were plenty of early leaders that built up large stacks, only to fall back and fade away as the event progressed. With the field narrowed down to 20 or so players, it was slangensbet who towered above the rest of the field with a big chip lead, and no shyness at all about wielding his massive stack like a club, playing a wide range of hands and knocking players out left and right.

As far as other notable names, none other than Pokah regular and Team PokerRoom vet Puggy82 was still in the mix, hanging around and biding his time. 2008 WSOP Team member Bibaxxx also made a deep run, ultimately finishing in 17th place.

With the final table finally set, slangensbet was still leading the way, and still aggressively moving chips around. As players fell to the wayside, though, Puggy82 made his move, chipping up steadily until he was heads-up with slangensbet.

Puggy82 powered into the lead, taking down two big pots without a showdown, and looked poised to eliminate slangensbet when he was sitting on pocket aces and all of the chips went in pre-flop; unfortunately for Puggy82, slangensbet rivered a straight to crack Puggy82's aces and stay alive.

Before Puggy82 could start cursing the poker gods, they smiled on him the very next hand after his aces were cracked. The two players once again got it all-in pre-flop, with Puggy82 once again way ahead with AK versus his opponent's A9o. Despite a scare from a flushing board, Puggy82's dominating hand held this time, giving him the victory and $117,574 for 1st place.

Here are the top ten finishers in the October ChampionChip, along with the prize money they won:

1. Puggy82 - $117,574 2. slangensbet - $64,796 3. stephlec - $41,804 4. clown476 - $31,353 5. jdmsmeden - $20,902 6. Hafferlaff - $15,677 7. Master_18 - $10,451 8. Paolo7 - $8,883 9. gr pao - $7,316 10. flirre - $5,748
