What to Expect from the 2008 PokerNews Cup Australia

Oct 12, 2008 07:44 PM. Post 1
The PokerNews Cup is a relatively new event on the Poker calendar with the inaugural event only taking place this time last year in Melbourne. That time 6 events attracted a total of 1500 player with the likes of Jeff Lissandro, Mark Vos, and of course Mr Tony G making the trip down under. The biggest event of the week, The 2007 PokerNews Cup Main Event, was won by Aussie local Dory Zayneh who took home the $300,000 for his efforts.
After the success in Melbourne, the PokerNews Cup franchise was extended to Europe with an event taking place in April this year in the picturesque town of Salzburg, Austria. PokerNews have also reported that next year a world first 'PokerNews Cup Alpine' event will take place at some "luxurious ski resort atop the mountains of central Europe".
This year's PokerNews Cup Australia has been increased to include eight events over 10 days and will culminate with flagship event, the 3 day $250,000 guaranteed PokerNews Cup Main Event.

The massive poker room at Crown Casino will be buzzing over the next 10 days

We have got the Team registered in three events throughout the week, a private freeroll today, the exciting $550 Tony G Celebrity Shootout on Wednesday, and the Main Event at the end of the week. The Main Event last year attracted 428 players and by looking at pre-registrations at this stage we can expect about the same amount this year. That would generate a nice pot of $800,000 - $900,000, with a very handy $300,000 pay day for the first place finisher.
All the players have just meet for pre-registration and the private freeroll is set to kick of shortly, so stay tuned to see which player can start the week on a winning note.
