RE: Baby Peter- Should the killers be named

Nov 20, 2008 12:27 PM. Post 41
interesting question.apparently, the names were first leaked on facebook.
in this instance, there can be virtually no doubt as to the 3 suspects guilt.what concerns me is the possibility of the defence getting them off on a technicality stating the unlikelihood of a fair trial, based upon the impossibility of finding 12 jurors who wouldnt recognise them from the media reports.i hope to god this doesnt happen, but as someone previously mentioned, this is a possibility.
however,as to naming and shaming in general.
whatever the case or circumstance, the danger with naming and shaming prior to any trial,is the likelihood that such an action would influence any jurors impartiality.
if this happens, and jurors walk in to a courtroom with the pre-conception of guilt, the real danger is not just of finding an innocent man guilty, but more dreadful,of leaving the real guilty party free to do it again.
imagine how we would all feel if that happened in the case of baby peter??
this case has at least raised awareness.dont forget it when the trial is over.
as we speak, every month,4 children on the "at risk"list die in this country.
its not just about baby peter.
if you want to put a full stop to this, the nspcc or save the children are always grateful for whatever help anyone can give and both do a brilliant job.they save baby peters every single day

282 deaths from abuse or neglect in the 17 months up to August this year.
They don't all get the publicity they deserve

if they had robbed a bank then they would have been named!! so why is it that the more hienous the crime that an individual commits, the more benefits that they commit

The fear is that he can claim an unfair trial because of the media coverage and possibly claim a mistrial.

As usual the criminal has more rights than the victim.

It's rumoured that a girl in the same family was also abused and is on the At Risk register, but so far it hasn't been proven.
Another reason for the secrecy is to protect the other kids in the family.

Once the names go public the media will hound the other kids.

I forgot to mention, the trial I was referrring to is not the Baby P trial.

Rumour has it he's been charged with another offence, possibly relating to the girl mentioned.

These are only rumours but everything that's been leaked so far has been true.

Linky linky

The order is in place for various reasons, including but not limited to, the privacy of the other child mentioned in the report above.
