A Trip to Las Vegas Wasn't Enough for BEATME x by Seth Shafer

Nov 18, 2008 04:08 AM. Post 1
The Aussie Millions Online Finals on November 15th wasn't just a sold-out, max capacity turnout, but it was a star-studded affair, with tons of former Team PokerRoom.com members trying to play their way to the 2009 Aussie Millions in Melbourne.

Former Team members in action included Wieringen, drohse, KristapsK3, Speedzebre, BEATME x, ashtyper, big wilson, whassup x, and wild_c4ll. They were all shooting for the top prize of a $18,000 trip package to the 2009 Aussie Millions, where they'd get another taste of the poker royalty treatment as part of the bwin Team.

BEATME x jumped out to a quick lead at the first break and was still firmly in command at the second break as well. When action was down to just five players left, surprise surprise, BEATME x was still holding onto the chip lead:

Seat 1: drohse ($21,438 in chips)
Seat 2: Speedzebre ($31,464 in chips)
Seat 3: ChipLieder85 ($19,200 in chips)
Seat 5: celestin7 ($62,563 in chips)
Seat 7: BEATME x ($90,335 in chips)

celestin7 would exit in 5th when he was very short-stacked and forced to shove with Ad 2s but was eliminated by drohse's Ks 8d> when the 8h fell on the river.

ChipLieder85 was the next to fall, finishing 4th when his Ac 6h ran into Speedzebre's AsQs, with all the chips going in pre-flop. That set up the following line-up when three-handed play began:

Seat 1: drohse ($76,189 in chips)
Seat 2: Speedzebre ($103,914 in chips)
Seat 7: BEATME x ($44,897 in chips)

Quite the resume of the three players left standing, as drohse cashed at the 2008 WSOP (and only was eliminated when his dominated opponent (who held AQ versus drohse's AK) hit his three-outer for the suckout to knock out drohse and BEATME x and Speedzebre both more than held their own at the 2008 WSOP and WSOPE respectively, tangling with the likes of Joe Hachem and John Juanda at the tables.

drohse would bow out in 3rd, tangling with BEATME x on a Qc 2s 5c flop. All of the chips went into the middle on that flop, with drohse in the lead with Qs 10h but needing to dodge a ton of outs, as BEATME x held Ac 8c. The turn was the 3d but the 10c fell on the river, giving BEATME x the flush to knock out drohse.

That set up a heads-up tussle between two experienced veterans, with the following chip stacks:

Seat 2: Speedzebre ($79,914 in chips)
Seat 7: BEATME x ($145,086 in chips)

BEATME x on the left, playing with Joe Hachem and Speedzebre on the right, facing off versus John Juanda

BEATME x continued to apply the pressure with his big stack and it wasn't long before all of the chips were in the middle. With blinds of 1,500/3,000, Speedzebre bet 4,500 pre-flop, and BEATME x called.

The flop was 9s 8s 5h and BEATME x lead out for 3,000, which Speedzebre called. The turn was the As, at which point the real fireworks erupted. BEATME x led out again for 3,000, Speedzebre raised to 12,000, BEATME x shoved all-in, and Speedzebre made the call.

BEATME x was holding Ad 5c for two pair and Speedzebre was trailing with Ac 6s and looking for help, needing a 6 for the win or an 8 or 9 for a chop. The river was the Ah, giving BEATME x the full house to not just win the hand but secure a second tour of duty with the bwin Team, collecting a $18,000 Aussie Millions trip package for his 1st place finish.
