I was wondering if any of our learned gamesreps or mods know as yet what will be the fate of our player notes if we transfer to bwin. I know this is an important issue for some of the players as they have many years of play at holdempoker/pokerroom. Admittedly, my notes mostly just degenerate into abuse rather than pertinent tactical observations but it will be a pressing concern for some.
I think the stats and notes would not survive the migration due to differences in the poker platforms. However I have sent this to the guru's for a bit of investigating.
Maybe they can devise a way of saving this data by possibly exporting it to a certain format (eg: csv or txt) then importing it into the new software's stats file.
I will be sure to keep you posted. Thanks for your well-spotted enquiry.
1. On bwin, open a table and add some player notes for a few players. This is strictly to get the structure of your bwin player notes file set up.
2. In Windows Explorer go to the directory you've installed bwin to, then to the Resources sub-directory. There's a file in there coveniently called PlayerNotes. It's an IRF file, but can be opened and edited using Notepad.
3. Open your PR (or other skin) PlayerNotes file. It can be found in exactly the same place, but obviously in the directory where your PR (or skin) software is installed.
4. Take note of how the existing notes are structured. Then simply copy all the ones from your original PlayerNotes file, copy them to the bottom of the new PlayerNotes file (being sure to leave the footer intact, you're only adding new records right below the others), then save the file.
There's some timestamp code for each player's notes but I'm not aware of what that does, I haven't noticed any problems because of it.
Just to make it clear what you're copying is this...
<PlayerNote PlayerName=tomtominio5 ClassificationIndex=0 TimeStamp=1224633952 NoteText="Calls raises with garbage like 7/9os" >
Obviously there's loads of preceding spaces/tabs too, just copy those across to maintain the formatting. Don't know if you need to maintain it, but better safe than sorry.
I’m not sure how familiar you are with this tech stuff… Some quick checking resulted in some easy steps for you to try follow, and these should see you maintain your notes and stats.
Please note that these are my findings, and that they in no way represent the steps that may eventually be offered by the proverbial “relevant department”. Do yourself a huge favour and backup the original files before you edit them though. Renaming the files you plan to edit, or copying them to a different location (My Documents etc.) before you start is a good idea.
Your Player Notes and your Stats files are generally located in a sub-directory of the default install location for each site’s download poker application. These locations are usually:
Bwin stats C:\ Program Files\bwin\Resources\Databases where you will find the file you created with your bwin stats. You will have named this file so look for the familiar name.
PokerRoom.com stats C:\ Program Files\PokerRoom.com\Resources\Databases where you will find the file you created with your PokerRoom.com stats. You will have named this file so look for the familiar name.
Bwin Player Notes C:\ Program Files\bwin\Resources where you will find the file Playernotes.irf PokerRoom.com Player Notes C:\ Program Files\PokerRoom.com\Resources where you will find the file Playernotes.irf
Simply overwrite the files in the bwin directories by copying the matching PokerRoom.com files to the relevant bwin directories.
If you have a separate set of stats or player notes in each that you would like to keep I suggest that you try Dave303909’s steps. You can easily open the Playernotes files in Notepad, copy and paste the text across, and save the edited file with its original extension “Playernotes.irf”.
I’m still awaiting more info from the guru’s, but my investigations have shown the above to work fine for now. Maybe we can generate a script to automate this process for the less-technically inclined.
If you decide to keep your PokerRoom.com nickname and transfer your account instead, you might even be able to get away without having to edit your Playernotes file header at all.
