Horrible Turn and Worse river, check or Bet?

Jan 7, 2009 09:20 AM. Post 1
Curious to how some of you would of played this, I checked the flop hoping to induce a bet, the turn was a horrible card, Villian made a small bet which looks like total weakness, I re-popped it a fair bit, the river was a bad card, what do you do here? I checked it incase he had the club.

Should I have value bet the river?

I'm not keen on the check on the flop for starters. Maybe if you were first to act you've got a chance of inducing a bet by checking, but with only one player still to act you've got to bet with that sort of board (flush/straight possibilities).

The raise on the turn is correct. He made a meaningless bet, you raised for information. The river is tricky. The only way I see him calling a bet on the river is if he has a club, so you're only going to get called by a hand that beats you. However if you bet big enough you could probably get him to lay a small club down, assuming you can put him on a hand with a small club that he'd have called pre-flop and on the turn with.

Firstly, c-bet the flop, there is an over card to your set so may get action and you want this to be a big pot. A bit of a cooler on the turn but still worthy of a sizeable bet. Complete cooler river, check behind, no value at all, nothing worse will call you.

imo happy

Yeah the check on the flop probably wasnt the best move, when I saw the turn, I was hoping he didnt have a club.

The next time I got pocket QQ's I was all in Post flop on a harmless board.. but he had KK. sad

That was the end of that.

The shove is dangerous with n74er still to act behind you, as you've got to put him on a big hand to make that re-raise pre-flop. You'd probably have been better flat calling on the flop, and if he shoves allin behind you then you're probably beat and should fold.

Yeah that was pretty Horid, tbh I put him on either AK, JJ but not KK, and also If I had of flat called the bet I'm pretty sure he would of pushed, I would then be left with thinking what he could be holding, shoving on that board with JJ, TT would be a move he would make, so I decided to shove and let him decide.

Overall the hand pretty much played it's self out anyway.
