haha, yeah, getting ****** up in '82 was the glory days of nz football, sadly. we have a lot of people following european clubs quite passionately, but most of them couldn't name more than a couple of nz players, or even the domestic league. having said that, there was a little media excitement last week along the lines of us 'giving the world champs a scare' in losing to italy 4-3, but it was really more like italy d - sports journalists are just really ******* stupid.

and as for you, mr pat. well...yeah. that did suck. most new zealanders would point out there were more of us than anyone else in those alinghi teams, but at the same time most new zealanders screamed bloody murder and wanted those who left to be tried for treason, hung drawn and quartered - so we try to just ignore them. unfortunately we're afflicted by the same ailment as every other country, that being that most of us are idiots.

anyway, even though we suck at football, it would be awesome for us to get in whilst the likes of portugal and such stay home - and i think we have a decent shot. final asian qualifiers are wednesday, at which point we'll know better what we're up against.

Four World Cup venues will be hosting the Confederations Cup, all stadia that are due to hold matches at the 2010 tourny.

They are Ellis Park in Johannesburg, Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein and Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

Port Elizabeth's Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium was originally chosen as a venue, but it withdrew last July as it was not on course to meet the 30 March deadline for completion.

South Africa v NZ tonight in confederations cup.

Should be a thriller :P very_happy

Some WC archive footage 58-onwards .bottom of link page happy

Inc. 'Top 10 WC goals'.(It's a shame no.2 is ruined by the fact the scorer shouldve been sent off earlier in the game happy )
