This thread is fairly amusing imo, and includes a very good photoshop. (Not the fruit one, although that's pretty good too.)

I think backing a country that has qualified already might be a mistake. A lot of countries will have longer odds at the moment because they might not even qualify. To balance this, the qualified countries will have shorter odds.

I suspect that when the qualified countries are known in full, the odds against the countries that have already qualified will in general get better. Plus you don't have to wait so long to get paid out when Australia thrash Brazil in the final.

My logic might well be flawed though. happy

And I agree with yr 1st point but not yr 2nd very_happy

There may be some value in looking at teams that could finish e/w in the finals but who are far from being certain to qualify atm,as their odds will be longer now as you say.

However,I cant see teams that have already qualified having prices improved once the full lineup is known? If anything Spain,Brazil will shorten as it becomes clear that there is no outstanding team atm.

The worst price for me in yr list is either Portugal, who are really struggling to make it and even if they do have a weaker side now than for a long time, despite having Ronny Aldo in the squad, with a team of extreme youngsters and past it veterans, hence the struggle to qualify.....or Argentina, who are not playing well, will probably qualify but not 100% certain.....I think the fairest prices atm(but cert not going to be getting my cash) are either Italys or Germanys, both odds reflect the mediocrity of the present team but with an understanding that you cant write either of them off, neither side are good enough to win it this time, although i would fav Germany over Italy.

Brazil are obv v short, but again dont really have an outstanding side and ,theyll def qualify obv. Spain are prob the form team atm,but still have reservations over their temperement and consistency esp when it comes to big tournaments and again see no value as short favourites.

The climate in SA will play a part and will obv fav those teams who have similar climates, inc the 'better' African teams and the South Americans maybe and even the southernmost mediterranians.

If I had to choose a bet now I would back Brazil to win and expect Russia who have a rapidly improving squad of young players, who have played together for several years, whos individuals are making an impact on the european leagues,to do well, despite worries about the climate for them very_happy

How,if at all,do u see this particular point muss? A big factor or not at all? Im not sure if its still the case but didnt it used to be that no euro team has ever won outside a european host country?

Not long now. very_happy very_happy
