Back we come from dinner, and no sooner than our remaining 17 were seated back at the felt, than we saw action.
On Table Centre Court, Daniel Negreanu raised, and the action folded gently over to Doyle Brunson on the button, who moved all in. Over to James Akenhead in the small blind -- who reshoved. Negreanu got out of the line of fire, and they turned their cards over.
Flop: {4-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} putting Brunson in the lead
Turn: {K-Hearts} putting Akenhead back in the lead
Mr. Brunson's assistant, who seemed to be under the impression that Doyle was holding the {A-Spades} {K-Spades}, cheered and called out for no nine or queen.
River: {J-Hearts}
To a standing ovation from the crowd, Brunson is bust.
Jason Mercier - 1,671,000 James Akenhead - 892,000 Praz Bansi - 863,000 Barry Shulman - 805,000 Markus Ristola - 777,000 Saar Wilf - 714,000 Daniel Negreanu - 644,000 Eric Liu - 609,000 Keith Hawkins - 516,000 Matt Hawrilenko - 498,000 Antoine Saout - 387,000 Chris Bjorin - 382,000 Thomas Bichon - 375,000 Teddy Sheringham - 320,000 Tony Cousineau - 250,000 Ram Vaswani - 173,000
It folded around to chip daddy Jason Mercier in the small blind and he raised. In the big blind, wee chip baby Saar Wilf called all in for his last. On their backs, as it were.
Mercier: {A-Clubs} {7-Clubs} Wilf: couldn't be much worse with {9-Clubs} {7-Hearts}
With chip munching Jason Mercier raising it up preflop from mid position, Teddy Sheringham decided to make his move and pushed all in with {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. On this occasion, however, it was an own goal for the former England International as Mercier was sitting on {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and duly made the call.
Board = {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5 -Spades}{6-Hearts}{2 -Hearts} And before the river was even dealt, it was ready Teddy go with Sheringham making that lonely trip down the poker tunnel. Mercier, meanwhile, has 2,502,000. Yum.
Last hand before the break, and James Akenhead raised from the button. Tony Cousineau pushed from the small blind, James Akenhead called, and they turned their cards over.
All of this except the last bit is hypothesis; we actually only saw the cards being flipped but that seems to be the most likely course of things given their respective positions.
On the very first hand back after the break, James Akenhead raised it up preflop to 55,000, Thomas Bichon moved all in for 143,000 and the Akinator made the call.
Keith "The Camel" Hawkins Eliminated in 11th Place (£51,536)
Keith "Camel" Hawkins raised to 52,000 under the gun and it folded around to Praz Bansi on the button, who made it 200,000. Back to Camel, who announced all in; then back to Bansi and he announced call. All of this swiftly, quietly and with the absolute minimum of fuss. Like gentlemen.
