Nothing Personal

Hey-

After my AK debacle last night I've been thinking a lot about certain aspects of the game. Eat. this also gave me some insight into something that I think is very risky and can be a real leak in my game.

Previously in the tourney, not too long before the AK that busted me out, LetsGamble had pocket 66 and I had 88. I think he limped, and I think I just checked the BB for a flop. When no 8 came I checked, but he hit a set of sixes...and decided to slowplay them. Now, this is a terrible play. It's very amateurish play. Anyway, I bet the turn because I put him on overcards that missed, and he continued to sandbag, cold calling. I caught an eight, and he called my all in and doubled me up. Then he started berating me. "What the hell were you betting on the turn?" etc.

It just so happens that my AK hand was called by him at the final table, and I was still steaming. I have no idea why I was steamed....I should have just felt sorry for the dude or something. But I really wanted to take that guy out.

I often get in these moods where there's a particular player I just loathe, and sometimes let it affect my play. Or maybe there's a player I just can't stand the thought of busting out to, so if he bets out big I fold even good hands sometimes.

When I finally got out of PR last night I reread certain sections of _Zen and the Art of Poker_ by my buddy Larry W. Philips, and I was chagrined to get some perspective....

PRETEND to get into personal shit with players if you want. But otherwise, it's a very dangerous trap, and can affect your decisions in all sorts of ways. Just a reminder for myself really.

In general, I'm working hard on a much more detached and serene poker experience. I believe I play best when I am relaxed, clear-headed, and open to hunches and reads.

Z-Fish

PS...9th hand of a 5er just now, I have AKos....raise 200...someone after me goes all in, someone after him calls all in....I fold (AKos is a real dog in a three way pot)-----the two al-in players show A4os and Ac7c. Hahahahaha. Gotta love 5ers.

yes you have to just pretend to get into some heated shit. Always have to have a cool clear head. Sometimes its best just to mute certain people, or never say a word during the game and just concentrate on what you are doing.
The 2 double ups at the end were great cause could have busted out at #11 each time. If the board made someone with a 7 a str8 on that 888/666 thing. you both made some mistakes there.
Because you both bet with trips when a str8 was likely.
You can't show weakness and you are pot committed anyway. After that sensational comeback from like 8000 to 60,000 I figured you for top 3. Next time.

I agree with nothing personal, but you can use it to your advantage. Getting in peoples heads works, not as well as live games, but you can still draw out some bad calls and get sympathy from bigstacks. If you can do that without affecting your own came it can give you an edge.

I love it when they get upset...

I usually engage back UNLESS I think not responding will put them in permanent Tilt Orbit.

Some of you guys may see me go back and forth quite a bit - believe me I could care less about who is upset and why. And it has zero impact on what hands I will play and when...

Only thing I need to work on is when suffering a bad beat by a MOTON is to congratulate them for their brilliant play and then get to work on taking all those chips before someone else at the table seizes on the idiot play...

DalcryBOT . If you have to lose your chips to someone at the table you want it to be to the worst player. You will atleast will have a good chance of getting them back, whereas if you gave them to a good player it will be very dificult to reclaim them.
