Good beat story ------- for once

Feb 24, 2005 03:51 PM. Post 1
Playing the afternoon 5K rebuy with decent stackage when i get QQ...

Early position raises 2x blinds since table was a tad ace rag prone (blinds were 200 400). Stacks are even and no one else in I re-raise to 5x. He pushes i call.

Slick.

He flops a king game over.

Why am I posting this? Fear not there are good beats out there - you just need to seek them out like I did. DOH!

I don't think it matters what you do here. Your raise was not big enough. But suppose you make a large raise to try to steal the blinds or be the favorite in a heads up situation to try to make the A-rags fold. He is probably committed with his lousy AK and not going to drop anyway.

Hey-

QQ is a 55-45 favorite over AK. So, once again, the preflop underdog sucked out.

This isn't a good beat. I hate this beat. I am a hater.

My point was AK had already decided in his head he was going to play this no matter what DCB had. Yes he hit his low out hand,
but even if you went in pre flop he was calling. You made the right move, he made the wrong move, and the results were bad.

pushing all-in or getting pushed all-in too many times in a tourney always spells disaster for me. all it takes is one bad beat, or just a better hand than yours, and you're done. granted, you can't tiptoe around too much either, or you'll be picking your ass for 2 hours. i personally don't blame the guy for going all-in. he's thinking he can either steal what you've just bet, or catch. yes he was the underdog, but slick is still a big hand. now y'all can rip me apart. i don't mind a little constructive, or even destructive, criticism.

I agree with ya there K.

I was hoping actually that he had something like AK or some lower pair... But you can and should expect calls in any $5 tourney when dudes have AK. Hey with QQ and about 8500K in the 5K rebuy I am looking for the action. Kind of shocked I didn't go all in from the start...

reckless? absolutely. But once I hit the 15K plus level early in that tourney it becomes a piece of cake. And somehow the hands start flowing... (look up rigged in the encyclopedia of JCalvin2424).

Gambled and lost. Better hand sure but I didn't have to play it that way either....
