I have found that strategy in multi tournaments is a lot different than singles on a couple of points...

This is really good stuff. I agree with just about everything you say in this article. The only thing is...I would like to hear more about this from you. For instance, if you were to expound on this topic, could you talk about position and how it factors into your hand selection. I know for me it is a crucial consideration...almost and sometimes even, as important as who my opponent may be. Like you I like hands with disguised value...suited connectors and, I also like pocket pairs provided the price is right for me to see the flop with them. Since it is hard for your opponents to put you on a set should you flop it I feel that pocket pairs that turn into sets have such powerful intrinsic disguised value that the profits you achieve with them usually more than compensate you for the times when you have to lay them down after the flop. Anyway...great stuff. Thank you.

Yeah I feel what you are saying about adjusting your play in MTT's when I first started playing for real money a year ago I had a hard time making it even to the first break. I came to the conclusion that I was playing to many hands in the wrong position and risking to much of my stack early. In the last week I have finished in top ten in MTT's 3 out of 4 times and also made it into top 40 of 15k guaranteed. In the 15k had the most horrible hands but I played so tight but aggressive that whenever I made a raise on the table I usually was given the respect of having a hand and used it to my advantage to steal blinds. Although I never had a chip stack above 5k i was able to survive the field by being selective about the hands I played and maximizing them for value.

i totally agree with much of what you said, and as any student of the game i have a few theories of my own...hopefully an article submit will get published soon so you can read it. as far as MTTs are concerned, the play style is COMPLETELY different from SNGs, shorthanded SNGs (my favorite) and ring games (the devil). "tight is right" is a great way to approach a MTT in the early stages-in other words, before the break, so that the insanely loose players will lose out or tighten up. after all, what is the point of buying a $30 pot with a $300 raise anyway. you might as well fold those marginal hands (AJ off) for example, or just limp in with them. that's just me rambling on.

i enjoyed your article though
