The most relevant philosophical question today

Ok everybody, the philosophical question I find most relevant in today's society: UTILITARIAN ETHICS or RIGHTS BASED ETHICS?

It's literally been 13 years since I have evaluated my ethics, so give me a while to get the gears working again...Also, I need a dictionary.

I agree with brg that neither fits they both have questionable agenda's I personally base my ethics on a humanitarian ideology, in my view unfortunately we are minority group.

Our ethics are shaped by the society in which we live. Partially agreeing with brg and acq, in that neither are a stable place to base one's ethics. However, I personally feel that ethics should be based on an overwhelming inner sense. Whether you are religious or not is irrelevant - the overall feeling of conscience cannot be ignored.

Morality is a rulebook, or rather a scheme of competing rulebooks proposed because they advance utilitarian goals.
