2 questions about the group.

#1. Right now this is a "public' group. I don't know if we can change this or not, but if we can, do you think we should be 'private" instead? #2. Group growth...Do you want to keep the group at a smaller more personal size or do you think we should not put any restrictions on the membership or it's growth potential?

This is what I wrote to a prospective member who asked me the question...

Right now, the group is small enough to police itself so garbage posts are not a problem. And at this early stage of the group, we want people to see what we're about and decide if they'd like to be a part of it. If the group starts taking off and filling up with lousy questions and off-topic crap, then we'll think about going to a private-group-and-invite system. But for now it's like when HBO gives you a free preview for 2 weeks. So long as the quality of the questions remains solid, I think the group should remain public. Once that starts getting diluted, going private might be an option. Elitism is for douches anyway.

You can't post even in a public forum unless you have been accepted as a member. I don't see that there is any reason to make it private what are we going to write here that we don't want other to read? But then IF this is a success we can always vote at a later date about the changes people want.

I disagree space. Seems to me if we maintain a good forum we would want it private, so that will be a benefit for members only. If it starts to suck, it can go ahead and be public, because then we have nothing valuable to protect. I like the idea of being public for a while so folks can get a preview. So what I think is, we ought to stay public for now and keep the forum good. Then go private and keep the forum good. And if the forum ever starts to suck, it doesn't matter what we do.

Growth? How do you decide who can join and who can't? It would be easier to decide who leaves, eh leezhurd wink
Space has set out the guidelines and numbers are not mentioned. Let it grow, let it evolve and lets see what it turns into.

Truly, it's all good to me. I just don't want a social lounge type of group. There are more than enough of those and I'm in a couple that I still have NFI why I am. I'm not concerned about overgrowth or about the threads breaking down and sucking after a while. ""WHY?"
Glad you asked...because this group is chock-full-o strong willed, and opinionated players. Who's going to sit back and allow that to happen? See, NP!

Well, I hate to say it, but its my experience that most all of these forums do break down to a more social type. Don't know why. We can and should fight it though. Might require very aggressive moderating, and maybe we should decide now whether we have the spine for that.

Ok, I hope your more heartless than you seem to me! Cause I can throw people out on the street if it calls for it. It is my job on an everyday basis. However, I'd rather put out fires than be the thread squasher! I don't think there would be any problem with either one of you two guys ripping out cheap seams! lol!
