Another One Bites The Dust...

Sep 28, 2005 12:36 PM. Post 1
It was only a matter of time before Republican House Majority Leader Tom Delay was indicted on criminal conspiracy. I guess what everybody is saying now is we should let the legal process work and for the most part, it probably will. It's not hard to imagine the long line of corruption running through Washington...Democrats, Republicans, others, funneling money and cutting corners and cutting deals behind the back of America. I think it's safe to say we all knew this was going to happen. And as we witness the breakdown of the Republican party, we know begin to see a natural transfer in the balance of power from one party to the other. Those who enter Washington should be forewarned: what goes around, comes around...and Tom Delay is no exception.

Karl Rove, Abramoff, *********, Bill Frist, Tom Delay, The Iraq War, Enron, FEMA, Abu Gharib, Guantanamo...I mean what else do we have to wait for before people understand that Bush and his administration are no less criminal in it's aspect. Bill Clinton can be involved in oral sex, but somehow these events are not impeachable. I just don't understand it.

Let's let the process work people. Let's not try and convict without any evidence being presented. If he is guilty then I think he should go to prison.

Michael, The evidence was presented against Clinton. He lied under oath and the Gap Dress proved he was lying. Now do you understand. If you have some evidence that the Bush Administration is involved in criminal activities, then present it. BTW, that whole thing with Clinton was disgusting, the cigar and the dress. Bubba should have resigned.

He has only been indicted by a grand jury. Lets assume innocence and let a court convict him. Don't we have faith on our legal process. I won't defend the Republican party....but we ought to the wait until the fat lady sings on this one.

Megan,

With all due respect, if you can't see the multitude of scandals that have occurred under his watch...then you are just not looking. This is a republican controlled house and senate (When Clinton was tried, it was under a republican dominated House). There isn't enough steam, and the damn media doesn't have the ballz to report what they should be. I don't understand why it is you belive in him so strongly, I just don't. How has he made our lives any better? Just answer me that.

Actually, I think there's a more neutral spin here too -- I'd suggest that this is a problem with American politics more than any one party.

Ever since Nixon, any president who wins a second term sees numerous indictments (and usually at least some convictions) from people in his administration and often from top leaders in his party in Congress. This may have happened to 2nd term presidents before Nixon, but I haven't taken the time to do the research.

I think there are two things going on here: the first is that the minority party and the press have a built-in incentive to go hunting for corruption in the 2nd four years of a president's term.

The second, and I'd suggest more important issue, is the old axiom about power corrupting. When people are in the top power positions too long, they tend to get even more full of themselves than they were when they started (since you kind of have to be full of yourself to want those jobs...) and think they are above the law, and that makes it a lot easier for those who want to knock them down to find a way to do it.

I'm not in favor of term limits, but we certainly have a huge issue in this country with people doing whatever they can to maintain their power. I'd also suggest that this is a fairly "natural" reaction ("witch hunting" for offenses -- although when the "witch" is real, I don't know if that's a bad thing...) on the part of the opponents, which is another sad, sick part of our political process. If the only way we can control the elected crooks is by having their opponents rat them out, what kind of society is that???

Feeling rather more cynical than usual today, sorry...

I continually ask you guys for evidence and all I get is a tap dance. It's like the so called election fraud in Ohio. There wasn't one person convicted of voter fraud, not one. But apparently some members of this group have evidence that there was voter fraud. So tell us! Give us proof of anything you guys claim. Michael,
Let me answer your question. How has President Bush made our lives better. I can think of 2 ways immdiately. 1.) There hasn't been a terrorist attack in America in 4 years. 2.) Bush doubled the child tax credit to $1000. That certainly helps poor, black mothers. Are you saying the child tax credit under Bush is a bad thing? Are you saying a terror free America for the last 4 years is a bad thing?
