Its freedom week here at Drakes Campus!!!!! Some College Republicans posted the Che V. Reagan Flyer on my door. Did you know that Che's ideology murdered 100,000,000 people, while Reagan's Freed 425,574,817? What an interesting statistic. I think i am going to make Reagan my favorite from now on.


I am not going to pretend that I know this issue very well. But I will say that these statistics seem a bit questionable. Bob? Mike?

Beyond that I was hoping we could start a thread about partisan manipulation of statistics in order to propagate an idealogy to those who may be mislead.

The whole Che vs. Reagan thing has always struck me as more than a little silly. It's a republican thing, mostly based on when those Che T-shirts were popular. Socialists love Che, Republicans hate him, and the average democrat views Che as someone who was fighting for the right cause, but whose methods were less than desirable.

And yeah, statistics manipulation is key to a lot of political discussions. Did you know 4 out of 5 statistics are made up on the spot? wink

I don't know where they get their statistics from or if they are quanitifiable...but I'll go on record and say that they were both mass murderers albeit with different tactics. Che actually did his own fighting, where as Reagan sat in his office and let the many South American dictators he supported to rape, murder, and pillage the many innocent peasants in South American villages.

I seriously doubt Reagans ideology had anything to do with the downfall of communisms. It was that Russia extended it's reach to far away from its borders and could not sustain the many military and occupation style campaigns that were actively occurring. The americans on the other hand, let the natives fight and supplied them with weapons, intelligence, and training...the ramifications that we are seeing to this day. So..I'd say that Reagans ticker is still moving with a little assist from his half wit successor dubya.

I know you'd expect nothing less of me Dharma...hope this was ok?
