| Presentation | March 2006: Wow, the whole concept is just finally setting in and I can’t begin to explain how I am feeling right now. I now have the chance to do something I am so passionate about, and that’s playing poker. What an incredible experience we all had on that cruise. The production and organization of the tournament was second to none. I swear, it felt like we were all professional poker players. I want to begin by thanking everyone involved. This tournament win was one of the most incredible experiences of my life and one I will never forget. All I can say is Pokerroom.com did right. They gave us an opportunity to become what most of us could only dream about. Throughout the next couple of days, I am going to be adding to this page with my thoughts about what went on before and during the tournament and finish with what’s to come for me in my poker future. The first thing I want to do is say a quick little thank you and blurb on each player in the tournament. What an awesome group of guys. Starting with MarvinGarden: Chris, what can I say, I might have been the only player to vocalize it when I said I was in shock and then filled with joy when you got eliminated. I say that out of the utmost respect for you as a player. Your record speaks for itself as a player and I felt for you when you didn’t get the chance to show your game at the final table. I know you would have played very well. After the tournament you were very supportive, offering advice and sincere congrats for my win. I wish you the best in your business and poker careers. I hope to see you in one of these major events. I am pretty sure I will. Mdjohnny: This guy is a quiet killer. Even with a wounded leg, he battled the entire tourney and finished in 5th place. He was solid all night, doubling up on me by slow playing top pair. It took putting a bad beat on Maryland to knock him out. The hand I had with Johnny was the turning point for me. He was all in with AQ vs my 99. Flop brought the queen, but the turn gave me trips and sprung me into second place for the dinner break. It was at that time, that I started to really believe I could win the whole thing. Johnny, you conducted yourself with total class and I look forward to playing with you again in the future. KMO28: We must have played 6 handed for the majority of the tournament. KMO placed 6th but competed like crazy. He was quiet throughout the first couple rounds due to poor hands I am guessing. But after one of the 20 minute breaks, KMO came out firing. I mean ruthless. He took big pots down from myself and Rufebert in consecutive hands moving all in after the flop. The man can switch gears better than any other player at the table. KMO, congrats on the engagement. Your fiance was very sweet and supportive and I hope the best for both of you. Keep in touch and remember my promise. Dragon2: Jack, the tournament shark, or should I say Dragon. You were feared at the table by more than just a few of us. It seemed like everyone there knew the amount of detail that you put into playing great poker. I was sorry but also slightly pleased when you had to go. I knew you were talented player and I didn’t even want to have to witness it. I can’t thank you enough for the way you conducted yourself after the tournament, offering up some of the best poker advice I have ever heard. No point in saying I hope I see you again, because I am certain I will see you in a major tournament this year. Take care Jack and stay in touch. P.s. the trench coat: a little scary. Mav98911: I was thoroughly impressed with your play from the short stack. It’s a tough way to play if you don’t see to many premium hands. Anyway, you were one of the first guys I met once we all got together on the ship. You and your wife are very nice and I hope the best for you guys in the future. You know how good you are at poker and I think it would only be fitting if you came into next years final table with the chip lead. Arttu5: How are you my only Finish friend? Just in case we didn’t say it enough during the tournament, Happy Birthday Arttu. I was so waiting to call your all-in 8-2 offsuit. On a serious note, I was a little disappointed I didn’t get to see you play a little more than you did. You took some tough beats and I think it is time you never play pocket queens again. After the tournament you were so great. I appreciate all the kind things you had to say to me. I have a lot of respect for you and your ability and appreciate all the advice I can get. Take care Arttu and hope to see you again sometime soon. Hustlepoke: Unreadable. That is the word that comes to mind when describing the way you play cards. I can only imagine how mad I am going to be watching the footage of tournament and seeing you put that huge bluff on me with Ace high. Hustle, it was a pleasure meeting you and your family, you guys are great. For the record, I was not hitting on your mom. Haha. I am so glad you didn’t break your hip playing basketball the night before, you took a pretty nasty fall. Keep playing live games, you seemed to be the most comfortable player at the table throughout the tournament. Good luck and be careful with that weapon of a fingernail. BillyBluff13: Billy man, what a tournament. It says so much about your game when you lead a tournament like that the entire way. I must admit, I stayed as far away from you throughout the tournament folding hands left and right. I was trying so hard to get a read on you because I knew if anyone was going to win, they would have to go through you. I have so much respect for you as player and person. I think you have as good a shot as any to take down the $10 Million at the World Series. There have been some really good articles I have read about you recently. Sounds like you have a great family with some recently newborn twins. That is awesome, congratulations. I look forward to seeing you again in Las Vegas. Stay in touch Billy. Last but not forgotten, Rufebert: Ryan, what can I say bro, you are the man. I hope you know what an impact you have had on my game and poker career. Your insight and level at which you play poker is far and above anyone I have ever met. Aside from poker, you are a good guy and an even greater friend. I value you the friendship we have started and look forward to taking live poker by storm together. I know how badly you wanted to win, and yet you were so sincere and happy for me during this entire event and I will never forget that. I see huge things for you in the very near future. Poker is something that you are good at and will hopefully make you very happy and maybe even wealthy one day. I can’t thank you enough for all your support. Let’s go make some bank. If anyone has read this whole thing through, I think you will come to realize what an amazing event this really was. There were so many good guys on such and awesome trip. One I will remember forever. My experience at the 2005 WSOP: The first time I attempted to qualify through Pokerroom.com, I think I was completely overwhelmed by the fact that I was actually playing for a chance to go to the world championship of poker. For the first three hours of the qualifier, I played flawless poker, taking down good size pots and snaking a couple bluffs. I was dealt Cowboys on the button and looking to add more to my midsize stack. With one raise and another caller, by the time it was my turn I put a fairly good size re-raise into the pot. One player folded while the other pushed all in. I can't tell you how quickly I smelled rockets. But, playing the odds like the fool I was, I called, he showed the aces and I put my hand through the wall. The next weekend I was determined to play in that qualifier again. I was in Lake Arrowhead, CA, sitting in a hotel lobby drinking Newcastle for 8 hours before qualifying to last years WSOP with KMO28, Rufebert, and Kutz-off. Two of the three I can call good friends of mine. KMO(6th) and Rufebert(3rd) would later move on to the Bahamas to play in the BECOME A POKER PRO event. Making it to the World Series of Poker was like a dream come true. For the next two months, there wasn't a sole I knew on the planet that wasn't aware of my achievement. I began to prepare myself for what I wanted to be 7 days of non-stop poker. I was playing multi-table tournaments daily. Pokerroom supplied each player with rooms at the Luxor, a really nice dinner the night before, and pizza during the breaks. I played some very conservative poker. I was just so excited to be there that I played like I didn't want to risk leaving. After 11 hours of poker, my pocket Aces were cracked by jacks on the flop. That bad beat ended my dreams of $7.5 Million, but the experience of being there was unforgettable. I told myself if I ever got the chance to participate in that event again, I would play my game, and not play so scared. By the time I left Las Vegas, I truly believed that this wasn't the only crack I would get at that tournament. Thanks to Pokerroom, I have another shot at it and I can hardly wait. |
