| Presentation | Hello one and all, thank you for visiting my Pokah!, page. I work for the fire service in So. Cal. and play poker for fun and money about 50/50. I've been playing poker regularly for a couple years now. I originally started playing as most people, nickle/dime/quarter games at someones house. As time passed, these occasional pickup games transformed into a weekly Wednesday night game that rotated from one house to the next each week. As several of us started playing online more, these weekly games fell apart and we were playing against each other, and now, limitless others on an almost daily basis. I had originally played poker for fun, and still do, but my thoughts have evolved, and I look at the game a bit differently now, as do several of the guys I play with regularly. We sort of trans'mogrified(a little Calvinism) over time from ring game players to regular tournament players, and have regressed now as we've had time to evaluate, back to prominantly ring game play, and not so much online anymore but more and more at the local brick-n-mortar poker rooms in our area. After reading a number of books on the subject, we all agree that the daily win/loss isn't as important as a consistant hourly "take" and what the stat's show over a period of time. Playing for the long term is now more of the focus that I have. I consider myself dangerously mediocre at the game. Not really all that dangerous to other players, but more to myself. Meaning that I think I play better than I do half the time. This is also something that I have been re-evaluating. Seeing where my skills really are at after learning about the mistakes and attitudes of players like myself, have now brought me to a new point where the learning curve is sharper. I evaluate my play more regularly looking at percentages of flops played and where I am overplaying the cards etc. So it's a monster in transformation. I'm interested to see after another couple of years of play and learning where I'll be. Ultimately, if I can get to a point of consistant, reasonable hourly income from this fine game, I think I'll be where I want to be. Do I ever anticipate poker as becoming a significant part of my income? Well,,,if it does I'll be pleased, if it doesn't, as long as I'm not using the mortgage to fund my play then I guess I'll also be pleased. Thanks for taking your valuable time to read through my rambling diatribe. Good luck at the tables! Looking forward to busting you sometime!! |
