About me

Presentation Last I recall, no one ever said all you need to play poker with was a chip and a mouse. Nowadays, people don't need to gather the gang in at night to play some real poker for some cold hard cash. Any hermit with a dial-up connection and a credit card can simply log on and go all-in. Although this really is not destroying the game or anything, it just does not feel right. Before the internet, I played with my friends. We played for hours together, into the late night bragging about our past hands, losing with pocket aces or flopping a full house. Those hours taught you something too. I entered my buddies brains. The rush I got when I learned a new tell, just thinking about how long I took to find it. I learned to analyze, to figure people out. But where has all of this gone? With new internet poker sites, all of this is lost. It requires no friends to hang out with, or solid paper money to be spent. There are no more real faces to analyze, or tells to read. The money is so easily taken or given; there is no more great sense of pride like grabbing that huge stack of chips. All of the true character of poker is lost. Now granted there are qualities to the new poker sites. For example, the thousands of people who sign up have the ability to talk and discuss whatever they want to, just as I am doing now. Also, if someone is in a place where there is no one else to play poker with, they can keep their game sharp while playing online, where the money is still real and the people are just as interesting. Poker sites allow lazy people the ability to just log on, and not set up the real chips. Those who could not otherwise play for real are also given the chance to develop their skills without paying a dime. But for those who still stick it out, paying $150 dollars on chips and a poker table, I salute you. Poker needs you and your dedication to tradition so that our next generation knows about the true qualities of poker. Think what you may about this story, and I know that most will write something rude about it, but I am still a fan of real, solid cash.
