| Presentation | Just for everyone who is a repeat visitor to my profile......I've been slowing down on my game......I've officialy paid off all of my debts (school), took the money I won and I'm back in school.......I'm mostly on here just to stay sharp at lower limit tables........after I graduate I'll see where I end up.......and as for poker I'm going to be playing in the WSOP next year.....So when the time comes I'll keep everyone updated... ABOUT ME: I'm a 24 year old college student. I've been playing poker (mostly 5 card draw) for 12 years. I got into to Texas Hold'em 4 1/2 years ago but enjoy playing different games (stud (5 and 7), omaha, omaha hi/lo, triple draw, razz.) I'm just a normal, down to earth guy....when im not playing poker I'm working out, surfing, playing (or watching sports MY FAVORITES: My favorite sports teams are the Browns, Indians and Cavs (born and raised, haha). Lets see, favorite poker player is Phil Ivy....or Carlos Mortensen....I admire their creativity at the table. Favorite TV Show: Family Guy, its hilarious.....makes me cry most of the time from laughter. Favorite Food: BBQ Chicken, yum Thanks to alot of the advice i recieved on here I am going to finish college. Although i have been very successful playing poker the last 5 months, i think not getting my degree is something i will always regret. If my poker career continues to take off I'll atleast have the security of finishing college and having a degree to one day fall back on when i stop playing. Well, other then that I'm just a normal guy......I never hesitate to give advice when asked.....in whatever area it may be needed. I also love to talk about poker and I also enjoy helping others improve their game. So if you need/want advice feel free to ask. I dont believe in keeping poker "secrets" from people, haha. Helping others elevate their games only helps you with yours. Not to mention I'm a firm believer in Karma, both in life and in cards. Help others and others (whether people or supernatural forces) will help you. One last thing......I try not to go to crazy about beats on here......when i first started playing my EXTREMELY competitive nature showed through a little too much MY POKER ADVICE: After 5 months of playing everyday you learn that controlled emotion is by far the best approach. Just from experience i can tell you there are many days when you take beat after beat and cant beleive the swing of the cards.......but over time those swings even out and eventually help you in less then favorable situations. Poker is extremely taxing when trying to do it for a living. Although i have and continue to make good money doing it the stress can at sometimes be unbearable. Thats just a little advice for anyone looking to travel down the same road. Like anything else, Poker requires a ton of FAITH and PATIENCE. Dont try to make money too fast, when you press the action you take way too many beats. Pick your spots early, and start out slow. Build a bankroll and as you feel comfortable, move up to higher limits. The most important advice i can give is know when to call it a day. Everyone wants to leave the table a winner and thats an extremely unrealistic goal. Regardless of your skill level you will leave the table a loser, sometimes more then you would even care to know.......but keep in mind that Poker is about the LONG RUN. Dont stay at a table too long in an attempt to "get even" for the day. After a while its easy to go to bed with less money then the day before, knowing that tomorrow or the next day will be a profitable day. As funny as that may sound its very true. There are days when i go to bed down several hundred (even a thousand) dollars and dont even blink about it.You just have to understand that over time playing good poker will easily make that money back. Too many people want to make money TOO FAST playing cards, the problem being short term luck vs long term skill. Short term luck brings an immediate gratification. Some people just want to roll the dice early and if they get lucky they're happy.......but this is hardly a winning approach. Dont set unrealistic goals too early and dont start at a limit that stretches your bank roll. If you're thinking too much about money, how much am i down, how much am i up, you'll miss way too many profitable situations. Start slow, build over the long run and like they say, dont quit your day job. I was fortunate enough to build my bankroll gradually while i went to college, enabling myself the opportunity to take time off and play for a living. Dont just quit your job or school right at this moment and decide you want to play cards. You'll put entirely too much pressure on yourself to win immediately. OK, i think I have babbled enough in the advice section.......hopefully this was somewhat worthwhile to everyone who read it.....and if you need some more advice, just ask. |
