About me

Presentation *** Recent News ***
25 Jan 2007: The 20 Sep 2006 real-money deposit requirement for play-money games has been lifted recently. Only complete registration seems to be required.

I can live with that.

I've always felt the Java front end was a great way to play without an invasive downloaded application. There was a good selection of games to choose from and the players were entertaining. I had earned millions in play-money and improved my real world game considerably. Anytime I had someone wanting to play, I'd refer them here.

PokerRoom.com is no longer dead to me. Instead, it's on notice.

*** Long, Boring Background ***
Once a bounty hunter for hire, Trann was the central character in a home-grown, choose-your-own-story computer game in the late '80s. In the early '90s, he graduated to MECH hunting in a simple on-line arena game and developed a following of like-minded assasins to his cause. After being left for dead since then, he has been resurrected and is now hunting for big pots at the poker tables, attempting to look cool while doing so.

Oddly, emptying clips of ammo into your opponents is somehow frowned upon in this venue. Oh well...

Obviously, Trann is an alter-ego. I've gotten enough questions about this to state: I am not Vietnamese. The name was invented at a time when I didn't know it was real in other parts of the world. I revived it here because I don't do profane monikers, I'm too paranoid to share my reality, and it's one of those stock names I have in my dufflebag of tricks.

What I will share is that I live on the Canadian prairies. You cannot appreciate how the stars come out on a moonless night until you've seen it for yourself. And the aurora! Brilliant shimmering curtains of colour. The personal links below, taken over a *city*, show just how intense they can be (note: to get URLs to work properly, you need to remove "http://" for some reason).

As for poker, I've been a 5-card fan since the '80s. Sadly, I never got any takers for my proposals to play strip variants but I have played nickel-ante stuff with friends and co-workers. I discovered Hold'em when I stumbled across PokerRoom.com in 2000 and I've been hooked ever since. I built a 10-seat race track poker table for our regular monthly games and it's been well received, making the games that much more comfortable to play at. I may yet build more.

Given my naturally pessimistic nature, you won't see me chasing many hands. I know my limits, I understand probability, there's no such thing as luck, and patience pays. I'm tempted to read some of the books often mentioned as must-haves but, in truth, I've only read one for the entertainment value: _Positively Fifth Street_ by James McManus. Since I still play poker for fun, I expect my reading habits will follow suit (pun intended).

*** To Conclude ***
I signed up in early 2000 -- wow -- and I remember helping out with the debugging of the Java app for Solaris and Mac. Those were heady times. Today, PokerV4 is a pretty darn solid application and I'm happy they continue to support it.

So, congratulations to PokerRoom.com for making their gaming tables not only free with the use of play money but accessable to many more with their Java application. I still visit using MacOS X and Solaris while all the other poker sites demand Windows downloads, which I'll not find myself using anytime soon. Keep up the good work, PR!

And to you: thanks for visiting...
