| Presentation | I started playing poker as a research into my studies - I work as a statistician for a research psychology unit in the UK, and we started looking into country-specific variations in the assessment of risk. As well as perception of risks such as smoking and drinking, vehicle safety and occupational risk, we've spent a lot of time examining risk systems in poker. Very interesting results (particularly the differences between Scandic countries), but I'm playing the results very close to my chest! On the tables, I talk a fair amount, generally to congratulate good play (that's good play, not nice hands - anyone can get a nice hand, but only the wily can eak out a big pot), hail my fellow Brits (especially fellow Yorkshiremen) and pour damnation on those who bluff side-pots of zero. I will never bad-mouth you (unless you bad-mouth me first!). Apart from poker, I'm an urban rollerblader, vespa rider, break-beat percussionist, festival-goer (Glastonbury is back for 2007 - I will happily trade a WSOP buy-in for a ticket - in theory, anyway!) and pop-video dancer. Music is my reason to live - I'm currently tuned-in to Hybrid, DJ Shadow, Nick Drake, Quincy Jones, Supergrass, Underworld and the inimitable James Brown (RIP). The Arctic Monkeys more than live up to their hype - seriously, if you like bone fide guitar music, get this album. Oh yeah, and footie (US: read "soccer"). I play in a great team (Camden Tigers) and I support a hopeless one (York City FC). |
