This group was formed as a result of the christo25/newplayer101 affair in the Ace of Aces tourney where it was a Team Pokerroom member who detected his use of multiple identities to win 1st and 3rd place in the tournament and provided PR with the player's own confession. Despite seeing the words from his very mouth in a live chatbox, Christo was still being allowed to play on the tables a full 21 hours after the initial report to support. As a result of the gross inadequacies we witnessed in that affair, we formed our group. We are calling upon Pokerroom to set the standard in online gaming collusion and fraud protection. A recent development, however, has shaken our faith that they are capable of doing as much, so we are taking our cries up the ladder. For several months now, Pokerroom support has received several notifications on the subject of mustangc1923 (aka Cmustang1923, xzhibit, x-strike-x and rzilem, along with 'friends' The.Poet, pkrstdnt and miniballs). He is a confessed and witnessed multiaccounter in several thousands of dollars of debt to many players on the site. Within certain circles, circles of HIGH PROFILE TEAM PR MEMBERS AND OTHER HIGH ROLLERS, he is a known cheat. Many of these players, the very ones who keep the dream alive for every new customer and lowstakes customer that plays on your site, have come forward in the Pokah forum and on Pocket 5's in support of the allegations made against not only christo, but now also against Mustangc1923. On Sunday, March 21, 2006, Pokerroom support granted mustangc1923 a name change. We find this action unforgivable. In changing his identity to domcat8585, Pokerroom has become complicit in his coverup and has greatly impugned its own integrity and commitment to stamping out fraud. It is either that Pokerroom wishes to hide him, or that the connection between support and your collusion department is so damaged that he completely slipped through the cracks. In either case, PR has compromised what faith, if any, we had in the fairness of PR's games and policies. Enough is enough. Please consider the following points made in the Player's Petitioning for Fair Play forum: ========== We are the group who believes that although collusion and other unfair practices will always exist in online Poker, it does not mean that the providers of the game can simply do nothing about it. Imagine a day when someone, somewhere uses multiple accounts to try to win a WPT seat. Imagine he wins that seat. Imagine he wins the WPT event. Imagine he makes commercials for the site as did Raymer and Moneymaker. Now imagine that one of his crooked buddies with an axe to grind reveals his multiple identities, reveals his fraud in winning his ticket to the Main Event. 60 Minutes, the New York Times, and Bluff magazine descend upon the scandal. Pokerroom loses MILLIONS in current and future customers. It is in THEIR best interest, as well as ours, that they do SOMETHING to prevent this from happening. WHAT CAN BE DONE: o Plugging the loophole that allows players to register for games using accounts on skin sites. In the latest upgrade, they have blocked players' ability to do so from the same IP. A good first step. o Verifying the identity of registered real money players. o Coordinating data with sites such as Neteller, verifying that the name on a PR account matches the name on the Neteller account. o Initiating a one account to one account ratio between Pokerroom and the Netteller type providers. This is consistent with PR's commitment to "responsible gaming" as it shouldn't enable people with empty bank accounts to charge more debt for themselves. o Monitoring their own tables, particularly the SnG's and highstakes games where the problem is most insidious, for softplay. o Streamlining access to the collusion department. Several sites already give players the ability to summon support to a table where collusion is suspected. The ability to IMMEDIATELY report and investigate such activity has several benefits: 1) A player can be caught BEFORE he cashes out. 2) PR can save itself countless manhours by dealing with it as it happens. 3)Eyewitness accounts of actions can inform the interpretations of Hand Histories. 4) Violations such as speaking out of turn and abuse can be punished (a forced SIT OUT as in a B and M seems appropriate). 5)An innocent player can be cleared ON THE SPOT, as opposed to having his account blocked for weeks while they wait for someone to deal with it. Certainly, we will never stamp it out entirely, nor should we try. But a site that demonstrates a concerted effort, a commitment to keeping their games fair is one that inspires the trust of its clientelle, that attracts new customers and draws new dollars into its coffers. Nothing is impossible. ========= Our growing group of nearly 350 members, some of which are highly recognized players and Team Pokerroom members, demand a response from someone with the authority to implement the changes that would combat these problems. Sincerely, The Players Petitioning for Fair Play |
