| Presentation | "My Path" I look back on my life and see a wide path trodden beneath my feet. "" I’ve spent many years leaping before I look, rushing into the unknown, wasting no time blazing new trails, doing things others wouldn’t. My paths have been filled with mountains high, valleys low. I’ve fallen into many pits and have had to claw my own way out, and much more often had to be pulled out. I’ve had to fight through quicksands, swim through currents, and fall off cliffs. Most of it never seeming to get easier and always an uphill battle. I’ve been bitten by venomous snakes, tasted forbidden fruit, and nearly fallen victim to the wilderness here. I’ve also seen a perfect rose out here, been shaded from the sun, and found refuge in a cave. I’ve heard Homer’s Sirens, been shot by Cupid’s arrows, drawn strength from the phoenix, and been visited by Death. "" "" As I blaze these trails, often I come across the trails of others. Most seldom stray from the paths that have been set before them. Many neither turn to the left or to the right. Some have joined me for a spell on the trails I have blazed, but not could stay and handle the uncertainty of what lie ahead. And I too, have joined others on their paths going forward, but I could not stay long and handle the droning certainty of it. Most paths I see have gone on further than mine, and many are better maintained than mine, taking the time to pave with brick, and marking each spot clearly. All the while, mine drifts far in the back; without identity, except where my footprints have left note that I was there; unpaved, except where I’ve trodden down brush and thicket; unmarked, except where my sweat and blood have fallen. Mine seems a chaotic and confusing maze, compared to the straight laid paths of others. "" "" Oft as it may be that I wish I could just meander down a road, so forward and simple, but inside I know that I’ll turn off the road and leap again into the unknown, to discover what is there that so many others have passed by. My blessing and my curse keep me from joining the masses. Though I’ll be beaten and bruised, bandaged and bloodied, nearly drown in the next river, or fall from the next cliff; still I must proceed; for there is a mountain that has not been scaled and a summit that has not been reached. "" "" Where is my hope? "" "" It is in that when I finally lay down to take my final rest, that I’ll be among the wild animals, in a place unknown, looking at a sunset that no one has ever seen before; and not among those well-laid courses of the masses. **************************************** "Man In Black" by Johnny Cash. "" **************************************** "" Well, you wonder why I always dress in black, Why you never see bright colors on my back, And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone. Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on. I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town, I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, But is there because he's a victim of the times. I wear the black for those who never read, Or listened to the words that Jesus said, About the road to happiness through love and charity, Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me. Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose, In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes, But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back, Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black. I wear it for the sick and lonely old, For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold, I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been, Each week we lose a hundred fine young men. And, I wear it for the thousands who have died, Believen' that the Lord was on their side, I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died, Believen' that we all were on their side. Well, there's things that never will be right I know, And things need changin' everywhere you go, But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right, You'll never see me wear a suit of white. Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day, And tell the world that everything's OK, But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, 'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black. ******************** ******************** ****** From my post on banning players who curse ******************** ******************** ****** . There are people in these fourms that would like to have certain words censored, threads locked, and players banned. All for case of being offended by them, or beleiving them to be inappropriate. . You have a right to be offended, and a right to voice your opinion on the matter. You have the right to not listen to that which you find so offensive. You have the right to align yourself with those that are similarly offended. You have the right to discuss how offended you are and how it keeps you awake at night. . But just so you are clear. Just as these are your rights, I also have a few: I have the right to offend you. I have the right to use words and descriptive language that you find repulsive. I have the right share my offensive self with others and to post things that other morally reprehensible people will rally around. I have the right to share my disgust with all people who feel they need to be parents to the world and guide us back to a path which we never wanted to walk in the first place. . But all hope is not lost. You still have a few rights left. You have the right to not listen to a single word I say. You have the right to ignore my posts. You have the right to not read the messages I write. You have the right to close your ears, close your eyes, and pretend I do not exist. . You do not, however, have the right to keep me silent. You do not have the right to force me to seclusion. You do not have the right to hide me, move me, or quiet me. You cannot tell me which language to use or not use, you cannot force me to keep my thoughts, ideas, and opinions to myself. . In short, If what I write bothers you... Don't read it! . ******************** ******************** ******* * Some of my favorite quotes ******************** ******************** ******* . "Only the educated are free." ~Epictetus . "Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them." ~Antoine de Saint-Exupery "What is left when honor is lost?" ~Publilius Syrus "If you shoot at mimes, should you use a silencer?" ~Steven Wright "'Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt." -Abraham Lincoln "We the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much for so long, with so little, that we are now qualified to do practically anything with nearly nothing, indefinitely, for the hopelessly ignorant." Love is not blind. Love causes blindness. Italians are so forgetful. I have yet to meet one who could remember the last time he was wrong. I am never wrong, just better educated. Companionship is often underrated and over-burdened with expectations. Religion is porn for the feeble-minded, who don’t want to take responsibility for themselves. My creative juices don’t flow; they more explode in uncontrollable waves. If it were easy, I’d be out of a job. It’s not the good a man should do that earns him respect, but rather it is what he does not have to do that earns him just praise. |
