Good news here at Niagara Falls on Day 1c, as both nammer4life and .hades. are through to Day 2!
.hades.: 78,000
nammer4life: 57,100
While we lost Miss nammer4life to a tough cooler earlier in the day, the remaining two Team members hung tough and survived a field heavy with pros to join attilaattila on Day 2 tomorrow.
nammer4life tangled with the chip leader a few times towards the end of the session, and he didn't want to get too crazy at the end of the day, choosing to cruise into Day 2 instead of really going to war.
.hades. saved the best for last, making a huge move in the last level to push his stack well above average. His patience throughout the day paid off at the very end, as he finally started picking up big pocket pairs at the end of the day, winning some big pots with pocket aces and other big hands to build up his stack.

Here are the chip counts for the guys with just one level left in Day 1c:
nammer4life: 68,000
.hades: 29,000
nammer4life had a big level, with a nice combination of big hands and good timing. He'd been tormenting the same player who kept raising pre-flop when nammer4life had a big hand, and kept folding to nammer4life's re-raises. He'd finally had enough the fifth or sixth time it happened, and shoved when nammer4life re-raised him again. nammer4life had the goods, though, as his AK held up for a big pot when his frustrated opponent showed just Q9.
.hades. got as low as 10,000 at one point but managed to build back all the way to 29,000 without ever being all-in, winning a series of pots to get back to almost his starting stack of 30,000.
This will be the last level of the day, with blinds of 300/600 and 75 antes, with the two remaining Team members trying to make it through to join attilaattila on Day 2.

.hades focusing on the action.
The guys are still hanging in there with three levels finished:
nammer4life: 47,000
.hades.: 24,000
nammer4life picked up some chips last level, taking down a nice pot pre-flop with pocket aces and winning some other smaller pots here and there.
.hades got up to 30,000 when he turned a full house with KJ and drug a nice pot, but ended the level where he started (and where his chip stack has been at for much of the day). He said he'd made a few raises with mid pocket pairs that he had to abandon when too many callers came along with overcards on the flop.
Blinds will be 200/400 with a 50 ante for level four. The average stack is about 35,000, with 144 of 166 players that started the day still alive. They'll play two more levels today, with no dinner break, before wrapping up action.

The final tally is in as far as total entries here at the 2008 NAPC, and it's a slightly disappointing 454 players. That's down from just over 500 for last year's event, and also down from 2006.
With the recent economic struggles around the world, though, its not surprising that attendance is down a bit. The winner will still take home well over $1 million for first place prize money, so there's still quite a lot of cash up for grabs.

Pech gehabt had to borrow a laptop to try to defend his title in The Bounty today, but so far so good for him, as he's currently sitting in 5th place in The Bounty with 149 players remaining. He got off to a rough start but rebounded quickly, building up a nice stack and staying solidly in the top 10 for the last hour.
He's trying to book a second trip with the Team to the 2009 Aussie Millions, as the top two finishers in today's Bounty both get Aussie Millions trip packages, as well as plenty of extra cash.

While we sadly lost Miss nammer4life during the second level, nammer4life and .hades are stil going strong:
nammer4life: 36,500
.hades.: 24,000
nammer4life said he's still sticking to the game plan of playing tight and safe, and that he'd picked up a few nice pots here and there, stolen a few blinds, etc.
.hades. got as low as 20,000 and as high as 30,000, but he finished the level right where he started it, with about 24,000 chips.
Blinds are now 100/200, with a 25 ante when players return for the third level.

We've just lost Miss nammer4life in action today here on Day 1c, done in by a nasty cooler of a hand.
Sitting on Kd Qd, she was obviously excited to not only see an all diamond flop, but to get action from another player on the flop, with all of her chips finding their way into the middle. Excitement pretty quickly turned to dread, as her opponent had flopped the nut flush with Ad xd, so despite flopping a K high flush she was drawing dead.
She said it was a great experience, though, and was still upbeat despite a disappointing end to her day.

The Team has one level under its belt here on Day 1c, and here are the chip stacks:
nammer4life: 32,000
.hades.: 25,000
Miss nammer4life: 15,000
nammer4life said his plan is to play tight today, as he's tired of playing his normal aggressive game and getting knocked out early on Day 1 of various WPT and WSOP events. So far so good, as he said his table is pretty tight and that he's not getting out of line and trying to create action.
.hades. and Miss nammer4life both were down a bit after the first level of play but have plenty of time to recover. Neither had picked up much in the way of hands during the first level, both hoping that the cards will turn for them during the second level.
Blinds are now 100/200 as level two begins.

Miss nammer4life didn't qualify through the normal routes that most Team members do, but we're always happy to adopt friends and family of Team members at events such as this.
She's been with nammer4life at events around the world, but this is the first time she'll be playing in a big live event herself. The $1,240 satellite she won was just the second live tournament she's played, so here's to hoping that her third live tournament will prove lucky as well.
Like many poker players, she'd suffered plenty of beats online in various tournaments, which was part of the reason that she decided to give the satellites here a whirl, as she and nammer4life agreed that she was due to win one after all of the bad luck online. She got off to a fast start in the satellite and never looked back, taking down the win after being the chip leader the whole way.

Yesterday was a full, busy day, even by Team standards. We were greeted by the limo bright and early and set out for the drive to Toronto, everyone excited about the prospect of riding in style to Toronto in our own private limo.

And ride in style we did, for about 15 minutes, until it became clear the limo was struggling with mechanical difficulties, which eventually left the Team sitting on the side of the busy highway, waiting for another limo to arrive.

Another limo arrived shortly and the Team was off again, after a momentary bump in the road.

The second limo, though, was too small for the Team to truly travel in style. The solution? You guessed it. And upgrade to our third limo of the day, this time a huge black Hummer stretch limo that barely even fits in the photo.

After all of the limo hopping the Team finally arrived at the first major stop of the day: the CN Tower.

After that we were off to the nearby Distillery district for some lunch and beers, before checking out Dundas Square and downtown Toronto. That led to the next stop on the Team tour of Toronto: a private box at the Maple Leafs home opener versus the Montreal Canadiens at the Air Canada Centre.

While the Leafs fell to the Canadiens by a 6-1 score, it was still a great time even if the home team lost, with plenty of great hockey action, food, beverages, and good company. All good things must eventually come to an end, though, so it was back to Niagara Falls after the game, so that .hades., nammer4life, and Miss nammer4life could get some sleep and prepare for Day 1c action.
