Marky_Crash Hopes to Blow By the Competition in Brno - by Seth Shafer

Jun 7, 2008 If it seems like we were interviewing Marky_Crash just a short while ago about his thoughts on his upcoming trip with PokerRoom to a Poker Race Trophy circuit event, well, we were, and no, you aren't suffering from deja vu. The Pokah regular and SnG machine has won himself a spot at yet another WTCC event for the Poker Race Trophy competition, this time in Brno. He's also currently atop the leaderboard once again for the upcoming Brands Hatch stop as well, so stay tuned as we may very well be interviewing him yet again in the near future.

We caught up with him to get his thoughts on the last trip to Valencia and his plans for the next event in Brno:

Tell us a bit about your experience in Valencia for the last stop on the Poker Race Trophy circuit. Other than your luggage arriving late, it sounded like you had a great time.

Apart from the result obviously it was an amazing time! PokerRoom really pulled out all the stops and made sure everyone had a great time and i think all the players would agree its something they will always remember. It was a great bunch of people with everyone around the same age and up for a few laughs.

Were you nervous at all during the tournament for the seat in the $500,000 guaranteed finals in Vienna? Did the fact that the cameras were rolling for a later broadcast affect your poker game in any way? Any regrets in regard to your final hand?

Surprisingly no, I wasn't too nervous during the game. I love playing poker so it felt comfortable. I was more nervous doing the interview afterwards as obviously I'm not used to that yet.

Didn't have any regrets about my play, either. I didn't feel I played a hand wrong and thought I had no choice but to move all in with the AK at the end as everyone was getting short stacked; if I got a fold I'd add 50% to my stack and a big chip lead and if I was called I knew I wouldn't be in the worst shape for half the chips in play almost. Also any lingering doubt about flat calling is took away by the fact it was winner takes all and we had to aim to win. I can see doggyp may have seen it this way too and that's why he called the 88 and he said that to me when we were out on the town the next night and good luck to him in Austria.

What was the biggest surprise about the trip as a whole?

Probably just how much effort PR made to make sure we had a great time. Not trying to be a suck up but they really were great.

Now that you're a veteran of the Poker Race Trophy circuit, do you think you'll have any advantage in the tournament at Brno?

I'm unsure as the table last time was apparently way more tight than the Brazil one so it's hard to judge how the next table will play. I think generally a little more aggression is required with all the added pressures around for everyone apart from the actual game and no surprise probably the 2 most aggressive players ended up heads up. But there is also a big slice of luck needed as the blinds rise quickly and everyone becomes very short stacked in no time. I understand it has to be this way so it can be edited down for tv in time though.

Looking forward a bit to the stop in Brands Hatch, you're sitting atop that SnG leaderboard as well, but gbpoker is hanging close in 2nd place. Any concern at all that he might be able to overtake you?

Yes he seems very determined and he is without doubt an awsome player and Team PokerRoom member and also plays full time, so it's going to be a tough one.

Anything else you'd like to share?

Nothing I can think of to add, no, apart from if the Czech trip is half as much fun as Valencia was it will be great :)
