RE: When to rebuy

Well i might be mad but i find at my level if you play good cards there is chips out there to be had in a rebuy. People play like fools knowing they can rebuy. I play tight and see if i dont even need a rebuy. I'll add on if i got a stack( even smallish) after rebuys end . Then im prepared to bet these folk who rebuy 7 or 8 times. Its just the way i think i guess.

At the low buyins you're probably better off playing tight aggressive and picking up chips from the donks. Just be careful they don't smarten up after the rebuy period ends. Probably not many of them will anyway :P

Like Suf said, depends on how much you're willing to spend to get a big chip stack at the break. If its a 5er rebuy with a 5-12k GTD prize pool. I'll usually play like a donk and shove any pair QT+ AT+, and I'll usually slow down if I have doubled my double rebuy so 4 times your starting stack.

If the buyin is a 20 rebuy, I usually play a fair bit tighter and limit myself to spending 3 times the buy-in. If you're not willing to spend 3 times the buyin or more, I recommend playing freezeouts, as you're at a significant disadvantage to the rest of the field.

mad I concur, I think you have to look at a $10 rebuy as a $30 tourney. Also what other people have said: i.e If you play tight you will still get your monsters paid off as so many people are playing v.loose.

Good luck

I rarely play rebuys, and then only for $5 or less.
I always rebuy immediately (I don't play the first hand unless I-m pretty certain to double, because you will be prevented from rebuying if your stack is even slightly over starting stack).
It is highly likely that someone will double on hand one or shortly after, but you will be facing them with a similar stack anyway, and a double will take you to 4x starting stack.

I will always Add-On, unless I have less than about half the average stack.
Of course, at this point you have now paid 3x initial buyin which is about the size of the bottom prizes, but you have a much better chance of going further.

It is worth bearing in mind that the play tightens up quite quickly after the 1st break when rebuy period ends, after 2nd break it is much more like normal tournament, as the more erratic players are likely to have gone out.
Also, your stack at end of first hour is highly dependent on the table(s) you happen to have been on, whether you've been on table(s) with loose or tight players, and your position with respect to them. All in all I think there is a much higher luck factor in rebuys than normal tournaments.
