Is Poker-a Game of Chance,Strategy or perhaps even a Sportgame???

Jul 12, 2008 02:36 PM. Indlæg 1
Here the opinions far break up! The legal definition of the game of chance in Germany is unequivocal: Games of chance are plays with which profit and loss are influenced exclusively or mainly by the chance. However, is poker automatically a game of chance, only because the maps are mixed and the player, hence, no influence on his"Starthand" has? Here, hence, we put the question: Is the poker variation Texas Sweetly of em a game of chance, a strategy play or even a sport? One cannot answer this absolutely spontaneously. If we look, nevertheless, once at the different concepts: Game of chance would mean according to our opinion that the player hardly has influence on the play course and cannot change the result of the play decisively. But each already once Texas Sweetly of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' em has played, knows that the players absolutely have very big influence on the play course and also on the result. With a strategy play, as for example chess, the luck is again in keinster form decisively for the result of a part. Thus one can look according to the real definition of a strategy play even at the poker variation Texas Sweetly of' em only partially as a strategy play. But what is Texas Sweetly of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' em then? It is only partially a game of chance and only partially a strategy play. Is Texas sweetly of' em maybe a sport? What is a sport: If we go ideally away from the origins of the sport - the physical activity. In the today's time many plays became so the sport umgemünzt, we think there of billiards, Dart and even skat that the concept Sport must not connect compelling a physical physical training with the exercised play. Who is to other opinion, fancies please the physical strains which a Dart-player, billiards player or skat player must undertake, if he these \"Sportarten\" in his favorite bar fröhnt. If now \\"Anstrengende \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" physical activity is not necessary to explain a play to the sport, nothing would speak here of explaining also Texas Sweetly of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' em (or also poker all together) to the sport. Nevertheless, the mental beginning is very interesting that with every sport also a tiny bit luck is necessary to win. Nevertheless, and the following There we have found the most important criterion which expels a play as a sport: Every person can improve his sporty results by training. Does Texas go also with the poker variation Sweetly of \\' em? If it is generally possible to appropriate with Texas Sweetly of \\' to em knowledge and abilities which make better (we do not talk here from control knowledge...) . Now, this question answers itself almost already by itself: Why the experienced poker players come over and over again to \\"Final Table \\". Only luck? Or is it exactly the experience, combined with the skill which the players have appropriated in the course of the time? The latter sounds substantially more plausible... Of course there will be a scream if we want to explain the poker variation to Texas Sweetly of \\' em seriously to the sport. But why then not? We have looked long and have found no arguments which would exclude poker in the variation Texas Sweetly of \\' em as a sport. The interesting is natural: If Texas was a sport Sweetly of \\' em, could it be no game of chance, because which sport is already a game of chance? And this is why we say finally: Long live the (poker) sport! Thanks for you Answers and Good Luck,Frank

It's strategy if you are willing to be patient.
But there will always be an element of luck.

"exclusively OR mainly"? That sounds pretty equivocal to me.

Lol. Im the only one who voted sport.

I think its a sport, becoz its mentally (and sometimes physically) exhausting. As in 'real' sports, there is the element of luck, just as there is in poker. And sometimes, the 'best' will fail miserably in poker, either due to their own fault, or becoz of unforseen/uncontrollable circumstances. (same as sport)

Some might say, well, does that mean every game of strategy is also a sport? I would say, probably not. Only the 'strongest' type of ppl can make a career out of poker, becoz they hav to- work to earn the income to play/and they hav to suffer the losses of losing- which can be very physically draining.

Both chance and strategy. By definition it is a game of chance, you have no influence on your starting and finishing hand, thus that part of the game is chance.

However, it is obviously not JUST chance. You have a lot of influence over how you play the game and can develop tricks and strategies of how to play.

A sport though? I personally don't buy into it. It is competitive yes, but I personally think of sports as something more physical. Is chess a sport? No.. it's just a game. So is poker in my opinion.
